Seniors:
On the resumption of the Intermediate league, Currin travelled to Doohamlet on Sunday last. Incidentially, this game was played at the later starting time of 2 o clock due to the ‘Blessing of the Graves’ in Scotshouse. Well done and thank you to the Doohamlet club for facilitating this change. The big Currin support who travelled were indicative of the correctness of this decision. Played in very difficult weather conditions this was a fine game of football and Currin started really well and took a commanding lead after a sixteen minute Jack Mc Carron goal. A rather fortuitous Doohamlet goal on nineteen minutes left us three points ahead at the break 1-7 to 1-4. With the benefit of the freshening breeze and incessant rain the home side began the second half well and scored a goal and two points to take the initiative. However we fought back admirably and regained the lead going into the dying minutes only to see Doohamlet equalise with the last kick of the game. Final score, Doohamlet, 2-9, Currin 1-12. Team and scorers, Fergal Connolly, Colm Mc Caffrey, Paul Rudden, Dara Brady, Paddy Mc Dermott, Sean Brady, 0-1, Enda Mc Caffrey, Dick Clerkin, Eoin Morrow, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Stephen Smith, 0-3, Kieran Kearns, Jonathon O Connor, Jack McCarron, 1-8, Dylan Greenan.. Subs used, Jason Mc Kiernan. We have no game this weekend and will resume the following weekend, with possibly a home game against Tyholland..
Youth Affairs.
Pride of place this week goes to our U-16 and U-14 teams who performed with distinction last week to capture yet more success for our club and parish.
U 16’s
Last Wednesday evening saw Patrick Emmett’s carve out a hard earned win against a very game Sean MacDiarmada. Half time saw Seans lead by two points on a scoreline of 2 02 to 2 05. Seans scored another point in the first minute of the second half but from then on were only to score one more point to the end. Patrick Emmetts dominated in every part of the field, including the scoreboard and ran out well deserved winners on a final score of 3 10 to 2 08. Well deserved congratulations to our double winners. Also heartiest congratulations to coaches Ciaran McCaffrey and Shane Mulligan.
Under 14’s
Another ‘Double’ on Saturday. Patrick Emmett’s under 14’s completed a memorable double on Saturday with another hard fought two point win over keen divisional rivals Doohamlet at St Tiarnach’s Park Clones. Patrick Emmetts built up a nine point lead in the first half, but a purple patch for Doohamlet either side of half time saw them first of all reduce that gap to two points at half time, 1 09 to 3 05, and then to go into a three point lead early in the second half. Patrick Emmetts regained their composure and retook the lead which they were to retain to the very end. The end was not without its drama though with Doohamlet hitting our crossbar from a free deep in injury time with what turned out to be the last kick of the game. The game ended 4 11 to 1 18. A long season has ended with a very fruitful conclusion. Well done all especially the coaches, Kieran Kearns and Padraic Smyth from Currin and Fergal O’Hanlon and Frank O’Brien from Aghabog.
U 8’s
We travelled to Tyholland for our last U8 ‘Go Games’. We played three games against Tyholland 1, Tyholland 2, and Emyvale. Currin panel on the day were Sean McQuaid, Killian Kierans, Aaron Smith, Ryan Smith, Caolan Connolly Smith, Zach Rooney, Kate Rudden, Phelim Brady, Cian Murphy and Leroy Mohan. Well done to Leroy who made his debut. As usual our youngsters put in a great effort throughout the morning. Well done to all. Thanks also to Emma Connolly who helped out with the driving duties. Training continues next Saturday for U6, U8, and U10’s. and will include a challenge game with Drung, our near neighbours from Cavan in Scotshouse at 10.00 am for U-6 & U-8’s. Players be down as normal at 9.30.
