Castleblayney Hurling Notes

By Majella Boyd Thu 17th Sep

Juveniles

Our U6, U8 and U10 hurlers have now taken a break for a couple of weeks. Well done to all of our young hurlers on a great summer’s hurling. Parents will be contacted by text prior to the resumption of training for our young players.

U16s

Our U16 team lost out to Carrickmacross in the final of the Silver Hill Foods U16 Hurling Championship last Thursday. The lads gave their all and battled to the final whistle but came up against a stronger team on the night. The effort the players put in ensured there was no shame in defeat and this team have progressed very well during the year. Well done to all the lads and thanks to all of the parents who helped out with lifts throughout the year.

Bog-Snorkelling

The Irish Bog-Snorkelling Championships too place in Alices Loft Cottages in Doohamlet on Saturday last with the proceeds of the event going towards the running of our juvenile club. The weather played its part despite a gloomy forecast and those that made their way to Doohamlet were treated to a truly international sporting occasion, with the ultimate winner coming all the way from Brazil, while our own Ronan Merrick – a key member of this year’s minor squad – was a close second. Thanks to all who helped out in any way, from sponsoring prizes, gathering sponsorship, helping out on the day and supporting the event and the prize giving which was held in The Old Coach Inn on Saturday night. Thanks also to Declan Connolly for donating the proceeds of the event to our juvenile club.

Hurling Wall-ball competition

Monaghan coaching and games are delighted to announce that a Hurling wall ball competition will take place in Cloghan over the coming months. The Hurling wall ball competition will run for  5 weeks and  will take place on Saturday mornings from 26th September – 24th October  at Cloghan. The competition is aimed at all U12, U14 & U16 players within all the hurling clubs in Monaghan.  Players will  practice the basic skills in hurling and then take part in Wall-ball Skill Drills. Players will finish by playing  each other in a one wall hurling competition at the end of each session. The purpose of the session is to give players ideas on how they might practice using a wall, and also to give them an opportunity to add a variety of  new hurling skills to their game. Players can get more information and register through their coaches or by contacting Aidan Kelly on 0870998036

Please give this initiative your full support as it is a great opportunity for our young hurlers
