Blackhill Notes

By Majella Boyd Thu 17th Sep

Universal Graphics JFC: Blackhill took on Scotstown last Sunday afternoon in Clontibret in very wet and slippery conditions. It was Blackhill that settled the best to the conditions and found themselves 2-03 to 0-01 up after a quarter of the game had past with Jason Finnegan and Colin Woods converting the goal chances. Scotstown replied with a goal of their own and were the stronger team either side of the break. A 2nd half Darren Woods goal helped to maintain Blackhill’s lead as the game entered the final stages. Despite a late surge of pressure from Scotstown who did notch up a 2nd goal, the Blackhill rearguard stood firm to book a place in the championship decider on September 27th.

Under 8s: The under 8 side put their talents on show in Doohamlet last Saturday morning as they participated in a blitz. The young boys and girls were separated into two separate teams of 7 as they took on their peers from Toome, Rockcorry, Doohamlet and Éire Óg. Some fine tackles and blocks in  our defence were followed by some skilful moves and nice scores on the attacking front. Well done to everyone who played and helped out on the day and also a word of thanks to Doohamlet for a very well organised blitz. It’s back to the training field for the young Emeralds this Saturday at 11am as they look forward to a possible glamour tie on Junior Final day.

All-Ireland Final Draw: Any club member that wishes to be entered into the draw for tickets must contact Marie Murphy on 086 8293209 before 5pm on Friday.

Good Luck: To everyone connected with the club that are beginning a new chapter at college or elsewhere. Go n-éirí an bother libh!
