Sean Mc Dermotts Notes

August Bank Holiday – A Festival of Fun for all the Family.

Our Festival kicked off on Friday night with a table quiz in the Complex. It was well supported and the Grant Family , who were the winners, put in a superb score.

On Saturday afternoon the annual Treasure Hunt had the competitors running up lanes, crossing ditches, and  looking through letterboxes all in the name of answering the cryptic clues and winning first prize. It was fierce craic for all who took part and won in the end with a minimum margin  by Enda Murphy and Co.

Sunday rolled around and so did the wind and rain. It was a marginal call to proceed with the sports day but in the end it proved to be the right decision. A great crowd of families came and took part in the novelty races and fun games. The side stalls were very popular including Treasure Island, which was won by Daniel Boyd, and the goldfish alternative fishing game. The main event of the day was the Juvenile blitz. We would sincerely like to thank Eire Og, Killeevan and Aghabog for accepting our invitation to participate in the football games. Monaghan Brass Band lead all the teams on to the main pitch for a pre-match parade and then the playing of Amhran na Bhfainn.  All games were played in a terrific spirit and the children were cheered on by their families and friends. Each player was presented with a medal as a memento of the day by a couple of the Sean’s veterans, Seamus Mulligan and Gary Larkin.  The evening was rounded off with a jiving contest in the bar which concluded a very successful day.
