Eurotech Junior Football League

Unfortunately, due to other commitments last Sunday morning I was not able to attend the encounter against Killanny in the Eurotech Junior Football League. According to reports and what I heard from the game I was perhaps the lucky one because the team put in a disappointing and below par performance as Killanny displayed the greater passion and showed the greater conviction with some electrifying free-flowing football and were full value for their seven point victory on a score-line Killanny 2-13 Rockcorry 0-12.

Eurotech Junior Football Fixtures

The senior footballers will be back in action in the league campaign this Sunday 23rd August when they travel to play Killeevan and throw-in time is 5.30pm. After last Sunday’s disappointing display the lads will be hoping to bounce back and produce a much improved winning performance.

Annual Golf Classic 2015

Our upcoming golf classic takes place this Saturday 22nd August at the beautiful Clones Golf Club. The club is delighted to announce that Aidan & Marie Murray of Mullinahinch House Private Nursing Home have come on board, once again, as our main sponsors and we sincerely thank them for their generosity, kindness and support. The cost to enter a team is €120.00 and to book your place please contact our chairman Michael Carroll 086-1041165, club secretary Martina McKeown 086-1509735 or Paddy McKeown and a member on the organising committee will be in touch to discuss a convenient time for you to play.

Community Sports Day

The club in conjunction with the Parents Association of the Scoil Mhuire will be hosting a sports day on Sunday 6th September. The organising committee are flat out making arrangements and while details are limited at this early stage I imagine there will be all the usual events including races, the classic egg & spoon race, three legged races, show your strength by throwing the wellie, test your skill at penalties or golfing, have you the speed to take on the clothes line challenge. Our imagination no knows bounds and whatever ever games you may enjoy I’m sure we will have something that suit your interests. Should you have any ideas or suggestions then please don’t be shy and get in touch with Tom Daly, Anthony Tate or any committee member and they will be delighted to talk to you. So let’s join together on Sunday 6th September and let’s create a fantastic sports day that everyone within our community and surrounding parishes can join in and have some with family and friends.

Go Games

This Saturday 22nd August the under 10 footballers will be back in action when they travel to Cloghan to take part in an all-county blitz between 9.30am to 11.30am. The under 8 footballers will be back in action on Saturday 29th August when they travel to Clones to take part in an all-county go games blitz between 9.30am to 11.30am.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Shield Semi-Final

The Gerry’s Prepared Veg under 12 division 4 shield semi-final between Ballybay v Rockcorry will now take place on Thursday 20th August at 7pm in Ballybay.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14 League

On a lovely summer’s evening last Thursday 13th August our under 14 footballers played host to Doohamlet in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 5 league campaign. This was a memorable contest and I have to say the score-line really does not do justice to the wholehearted efforts and work-rate from the team because during a hugely competitive game the lads certainly tried hard and perhaps with a bit more accuracy and composure on the ball in front of the posts things may have been different! As it transpired a stronger Doohamlet outfit secured a fifteen point victory on a final score Rockcorry 0-9 Doohamlet 3-15.

Croke Park Activity Day

Last Monday (17th August) was Activity Day in Croke Park where kids from across the county got the chance to play on the famous turf. I imagine for most players the opportunity to play in Croke Park is no doubt a lifetime ambition! I mean, I’m sure every player, (including myself at one stage) daydreamed of playing on the ‘hallowed turf’ and that dream, of running out onto the Croke Park pitch, came true for two of our up and coming stars namely James O’Brien and Timothy Elliott who were the lucky lads and attended the day. They were among a group of under 12 players from across the county who were selected to train and play in the theatre of dreams. This was an amazing opportunity for the young lads and during the morning session they took part in some coaching sessions played a match while in the afternoon they enjoyed an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the famous stadium and the GAA museum. Well done lads it was a lovely achievement and hopefully this will be the first of many occasions that you will grace Croke Park.

Deepest Sympathy
