On Saturday the 15th of August Monaghan Coaching & Games organised the Monaghan Ulster Og 7-a-side competition. The blitz took place in Cloghan where there was fine weather for a change!
The winners of this competition go onto represent Monaghan in the Ulster Competition at the start of September so there was a good competitive feel to the blitz throughout the day.
Unfortunately, only 6 teams entered the competition (Aughnamullen, Clones, Doohamlet, Magheracloone, Scotstown and Truagh) which was a shame because it would really have added to the day if more clubs were able to take part and add their stamp to the blitz. The format of the competition was a round robin league where each team played each other once with the team with the highest points total winning out the competition in the end.
Over the course of the day, Aughnamullen Sarsfields came out on the top, winning all 5 of their games, so they go onto represent Monaghan in the Ulster Competition. We wish them the best of luck on the day and we have no doubt they will represent their families, club and their county with distinction on the day.
Monaghan Coaching & Games would just like to thank the clubs and managers for coming on the day, the 3 referees who officiated (Xaiver Coyle, Barry Grimley and Ciaran Mulligan) on the day and the Monaghan County Board for th use of their facilities.
Hopefully their will be more SuperTouch blitz organised for later in the year but we will be in touch about these when we know more details about them.
