Emyvale Notes

By Majella Boyd Thu 6th Aug

Minor Championship: Emyvale progressed to the final of the Division 2 Minor Championship with a great win over Toome last week. This was the third final that Emyvale teams have qualified for over the past three weeks, U21’s, U16’s, Minors. The game was played in Tyholland and both teams served up a great feast of football. Toome looked the stronger team but Emyvale played with great determination and tenacity & won by four points. It was a great team performance by Emyvale & in goals Conor Lavery brought off two fantastic saves in the second half to keep Emyvale in the game. One of them was heading to the top corner of the net & he somehow got a hand to it to deflect it round the post. The two O’Neills, Aaron & Ryan gave him strong cover in defence & Kieran Mc Quaid’s fielding of the ball was superb. The mid-field pairing of Steven Kerr & Jonathan Hughes worked tirelessly & up front James O’Neill gave a display in free taking with both feet, off the ground & out of his hands. Robbie Mc Allister covered every blade of grass & scored a classy goal. Emyvale team & scorers: Conor Lavery, Adrian Fields, Kieran Mc Quaid, Ben Mc Kenna, Gallagher, Aaron O’Neill, Jonathan Hughes, Shane Gilbane, Steven Kerr,  Robbie Mc Allister 1:1, James O’Neill 0:9, Michael Mc Allister 0:1, Kyle Hughes 1:0, Jonathan Mc Carron,  Oisin Campbell. Subs. Ryan O’Neill, Pauric Duffy 0:1. They now meet Corduff in the final which has yet to be arranged.

Handball: Darren Doherty heads off to Calgary, Canada on Sunday next as part of the Irish team to play in the World Handball Championships. We wish him the best of luck & hopefully he can take home a World Title to add to the two he already has.
