Gerry’s Prepared Veg U12 Div 2 Shield Final
FT Score Drumhowan 5-10 Truagh 2-11
Played in glorious conditions in O’Neill Park last Friday 7th August Drumhowan u12s overcame a fine Truagh team.
The game commenced at 7.30 and Truagh raced into a 2 point lead and Drumhowan were slow to get off the mark. It wasn’t until the 7th minute that they entered the scoring market and they did so with a bang when the captain and Legacurry man James Mc Adam scored a goal. This was followed up with another 2 minutes by full forward Ciaran Keenan. Drumhowan had found their rhythm and led from that point on. Midfielder Eimear Quinn then got in on the scoring with a point followed by a point from Daire Sheridan. Truagh then knocked one back but James Mc Adam was having none of it knocking over a 45 with his trusty left peg to leave the score13 minutes in Drumhowan 2 – 3 Truagh 0-3 Truagh pulled a point back but then the killer blow came when the man with Mayo blood Caolán Reilly scored the team’s third goal. With 5 minutes left the flamed hair Ciarán Keenan scored Drumhowan’s final point of the half to leave the Half Time Score Drumhowan 3-4 Truagh 0-5.

The 2nd third gave the opportunity for the rest of the 2 squads to shine and they provided the large crowd in attendance with great entertainment and also left them in the knowledge with the skill on view that both clubs future is secure.

In the final third Drumhowan were quick off the mark with a Dáire point. It was throughout this period that the Drumhowan’s defenders were tested to the full with Truagh attacking with full force. The defenders of Orlaith Brennan, Tristan Duffy, Johnathan Lavelle and Ruadhán Curran played out of their skins with some serious defending taking place – with a number of goal line clearances. Truagh got the next few scores before another Daire Sheridan point followed closely by the captain James Mc Adam.
Then in what was probably the goal of the game Dáire Sheridan having his best game of season scored a screamer of a goal from 30 meters out. Truagh replied with one of their own almost immediately but Daire Sheridan scored his 4th point of the game laid on by the blond bombshell David Barry who worked hard throughout. Truagh then got their 2nd goal of the game after some hard pressure. This forced goalie Mark Tomany to slow the game down. Mark placed his kickouts well throughout the game and these led to many of Drumhowan scores. With 7 minutes left captain James moved up a gear to get past his marker and rifle the ball to the net for the games final goal and his second. 3 minutes later Caolan Reilly raced up the right to score his first point of the game. By this point Drumhowan had introduced their first sub Tom Doherty who was closely followed into the fray by the Carrickatee forward Killian Mc Adam. Then with a minute left James Mc Adam on the left wing with his left foot scored a fitting final point to leave the full time score Drumhowan 5-10 Truagh 2 -11 James was then presented the Mullyash Cup by County Children’s officer and fellow Drumhowan man John Mc Ardle. This was only the 2nd time in the club’s history that a U12 cup was won at Div 2 Level – you had to go back to 1994 when the Conlon Cup was captured.
