We played Inniskeen yesterday evening, result next week.

On Sunday, we’re away to Donaghmoyne with throw in time changed to 2pm.

Senior Championship

We play Magheracloone in the opening round of the senior championship on the weekend of 23rd August, but the exact fixture has not yet issued.

Championship Double Header

A Junior Championship double header will be held at O’Neill Park on Saturday 15th August  at 5pm and 6.30pm. Usual stewards required from 4pm.

Minor League

We are away to Scotstown on Tuesday next  at 7.15pm.

All Ireland Championship

The county boys had no luck in Croke Park last Saturday evening when they exited the All Ireland series at the hands of Tyrone. It’s disappointing for them all considering the huge effort and sacrifice to their lives that county football now demands. But we are proud of them and what they have achieved against the odds and we are particularly proud of our own club representatives, Team Captain, Conor, Vinny ,Dessie and Conor B for their outstanding contribution to another memorable year for Monaghan football. Defeat is always hard to take, especially in the full glare of national television, but when they came back down the road on Saturday last, sick, sore and tired, the Anglo Celt Cup was still on the mantelpiece. Well done boys.

U16 League

The Corduff game last week was cancelled. We play Eire Og in the semi-final next Thursday, 20th August at 7.15pm in Clontibret.

U14 League

We are at home to Tiarnach Sarsfields this evening at 7.30pm.

U12

We play Scotstown at home on Saturday at 12 noon in the league semi-final. Best wishes to all involved.

U10/U8/U6 Training continues as usual

Sympathy

Sympathy is extended to the Hughes family Termacmoe on the death of Malachy Tighe, Derrymacash, grandfather of, minor player, Francis. Ar Dheis De go raibh a Anam.

Camogie.

A quiet week, comparatively speaking, with none of our teams involved in competitive action. However training for the various groups continued unabated on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. A special ‘welcome’ to Ned and Ailbhe Boyle who have taken over the coaching of the U-12 panel following the departure of Marie to Templemore and Aisling to Dungannon. At the outset, the club owes Marie and Aisling a huge debt of gratitude for the enormous work they have done building secure (and enthusiastic!) foundations for the club over the past number of years. Their weekly sessions were attended by at least 15 young camógs, winter and summer, who have enjoyed participating in blitzes in Armagh and Monaghan as well as U-12 competition in Armagh. Of course under the tutelage of Ned, they remain in very safe and capable hands. One only has to look at the senior teams’ successes at county and provincial level, over the past 2 years, if evidence is needed! As a skilled and stylish player, Ailbhe brings a wealth of experience to the task and will learn the finer points of coaching under the guidance of ‘The Master’ himself! Best wishes to them both!

On Friday evening, a potentially life-changing launch took place at the club rooms when the Irish Blood Transfusion Service, in conjunction with Clontibret GAA Club, initiated the ‘It’s in your Blood’ programme. The ultimate aim is to promote donating blood, through clinics in the local area, and deliver health support for GAA members and their wider local communities. The initiative is being spear-headed by Patricia and Michael Duffy, whose 16 year old daughter, Mary, is currently recovering in St James’s haematology unit, Dublin, following her successful bone marrow transplant three weeks ago.

Mary was a member of the Clontibret camogie, senior team that won their 2nd successive provincial title in October last, a competent horse-woman, and ladies football exponent. In March this year the family’s world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukaemia. Mary has spent much time in St James’s Hospital since where monitoring of her blood platelets and bone marrow are critically important. Thanks to various IBTS programmes like the Blood Clinics, the Bone Marrow Registry, the IBTS Tissue Bank and monitoring/ testing programmes, patients like Mary are facilitated in receiving the highest level of diagnosis, treatment and care to enable them fully recover.

So the Clontibret lads and ladies are delighted to be associated with this wonderful initiative and will be encouraging people from all strands of life to attend the blood donation clinic when it visits Clontibret shortly. For further information on the life-saving work of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service go to www.giveblood.ie

Of course we continue to wish Mary well on her journey to recovery and judging by the ‘Snapchat’ communications she is slowly returning to ‘her old self’ with wonderful zest!!

Also on Friday evening the senior camogie players enjoyed a pleasant interlude with Shauna McElvaney, who is taking a short break from the game following her marriage to Enda, at the end of last year. The club surprised Shauna with the No 6 jersey, framed, which she wore with distinction over many years and especially in both the 2013/’14 Ulster finals, where as centre-half back she was ‘solid as a rock’! Just a matter of completing the building of your new home, Shauna, hanging it up and then getting out the boots and hurl again!!

Our U-16 team play Middletown on Tuesday (Aug 11). Please note the change in starting time from 7.30pm to 7.00pm. On Wednesday Aug 19, our senior panel meet Inniskeen in the Monaghan League. Best wishes to both.
