The South Ulster Hurling Academy U14 and U16 teams had their first match day outings of the year on Saturday the 18th of July. The South Ulster Academy is made up of players from counties Monaghan, Cavan and Fermanagh. Over the past number of months both of the squads have trained on a regular basis in preparation for last Saturday’s blitzes. The U14 squad compromised of two different teams, with one squad going to Sligo and the other squad going to Louth. The team that travelled to Sligo competed against counties Tyrone, Donegal and Sligo, while the team that travelled to Louth competed against counties Louth and Tyrone. The U16 squad travelled to Leitrim and played games against Leitrim and Longford. Both squads had really good outings competing very well against their opposition. The squads will continue to train over the next couple of months, again in preparation for their next blitz which will take place at the end of August. We would just like to thank our Hurling Officer Aidan Kelly, the Ulster Regional Hurling Officer Pauric Dowdall and especially the Monaghan coaches who travelled with the squads who were Fintan Finnegan and Peter Meighan.
