Corduff Notes

By Majella Boyd Tue 28th Jul

Juveniles:

Welcome on board our new roving reporter John Finlass who will be covering the Juvenile news in Mark Robinson’s absence for the next few weeks.

Under 6s

Our Under 6s played a challenge match in Maghercloone on Saturday Morning. It was great to see so many players from both clubs togged out and the number of parents and even grandparents supporting  the  stars of the future. We would like to thank Maghercloone for hosting the game and for the refreshments after the game. The Corduff players who took part in this game were Jack King, Matthew King, Jamie Corrigan, Nathan Mcgarrell, Conor Hand, Rian McGrath, John Finlass, Noel Murtagh, Macara Crossan, Finn Crossan, Jamie Martin, Jonah Conlon, Coror McCluskey and Shane Maloney.

Under 8s & Under 10s:

Our Under 8s and 10s both competed in Blitz organised by Inniskeen last Thursday night. Both teams played really well against teams from Inniskeen, Donaghmoyne, Toome & Carrick. The under 8 team that took part on the evening were Jack Marron, Jessie Crossan, Peter Connolly, Christopher Corrigan, Fergal Mc Enaney, Harry O Reilly, Jamie Mc Nally, Peter Walsh, Cian Raafferty, Dylan Conlon, Shane Courtney, Oliver Chorchel, Daniel Pienaar, Finn Crossan, Macara Crossan, Daithi Hegarty, David Corrigan, Moya Hegerarty, Shane Hand, Matthew King, Noel Murtagh, Jack King, Harry McCabe, Eartin Pienaar, Lewis McGivney & Oran Farrelly. Next Blitz takes place in Clones on the 29th

of August.

Under 12s

Our Under 12 game due for last Saturday was postponed as Oram conceded as they  were unable to field. This was the last round of fixtures in the league and Corduff finished in top position unbeaten. This guarantees the team a home draw in the semi-final.

Under 14s:

Our Under 14s put in a great display in the league last Tuesday night at home to Clones. However Clones proved too strong on the night.

Under 16s:

Our Under 16s had a brilliant win in the semi final of the Championship against Eire Og last Thursday night in Corduff. It was a very closely fought contest but the Corduff players dug deep to produce their  best performance of the season to win on a scoreline of 7-6 to 2-14. No date has yet been set for the final. Well done to all the players and their manger Adrian Burns.

Monaghan County U16s:

Corduff’s Sean Burns and the Monaghan U16 team  reached the shield final of the Gerry Reilly Cup last week by beating Wicklow in the semi-final on a score of Monaghan 6-24 Wicklow 1-6. Sean Burns produced a man of the match performance, scoring 4-4. Well done Sean!!
Congratulations once again to Corduff’s Sean Burns and the Monaghan U16 team on winning the Gerry Reilly Shield Final on Sunday against Meath. The final score was Monaghan 2-11 – 0-6 Meath.

Minors:

The Minors reached the semi-final of the Minor Championship and were in action on Tuesday night against Clones. Report next week.

Reserves:

Last night the Reserves played Blackhill in the League semi-final in Corduff. Corduff have had a positive league campaign and were on the same points as Blackhill going into this match.

Based on the evidence of the campaign so far both teams are well matched and Corduff  will be keen to keep their challenge on course and make it to the final. Full report next week.
