Castleblayney Notes

By Mary McEneaney Tue 14th Jul

Senior Team: Last Sunday saw the Senior team take on Monaghan Harps in a “Star” game which meant we didn’t have Dermot Malone and with a number of players on holidays it meant that the Senior Management were able to give Daniel McCarthy, Brandon Rice and Fintan Finnegan all their first senior competitive starts of the year and in fairness to them all they played well throughout. Supporters and Management were pleased at half time when we went in 1-5 apiece but this unfortunately was as good as it got, with the Harps coming out at the beginning of the second half to rattle over a few quick points to open a gap which they continued to build on throughout the second half, a very good Patrick Tavey goal near the end helped reduce the deficit to 7. Faughs 2-6 Harps 1-16. The next Senior League game will be fixed after the Ulster Senior Football Final.

Reserve Team: The reserve team next game will be against Monaghan Harps in Gavan Duffy on Saturday 18th of July at 7pm which is a top of the table clash with both teams currently sitting on sixteen points after 10 games.

Under 6, Boys Under 8 and Boys Under 10: Training resumes this week on Thursday at normal times in the field with training for the Under 8 and Under 10 in the field on Saturday morning at 10am.

Under 8 Go Games: The under 8’s had Go Games last Saturday in St.Marys Park where they fielded three teams. They played very well in all their games and showed the great progress that they have made over the last few months. Thanks to Latton, Drumhowan, Carrick, Monaghan Harps and Cremartin for making Saturday morning such fun for all the children.

Boys Under 12: Well done to our two Under 12 teams who played the Harps on Saturday, the development team were first up when they took on the Harps knowing that a win would put them through to the Division Five Final at the end of August, these young lads set about their task well and battled from the very first thrown in to win by two points. The Senior Under 12 team then took on the Harps in Division 1 knowing that a point would guarantee them a semi-final place , they came in at half time two up after playing with a stiff breeze but with five minutes to go the Harps got their noses in front play Monaghan but these young lads have a steely resolve and when Niall Rice popped up to equalise nobody was surprised. The Senior Team now advances to the semi-finals which will be in August, dates and fixtures have yet to be decided.

Boys Under 14: The development team have a match this Saturday when they make the short trip out to neighbours Cremartin for a round eleven fixture, the boys have played well in their last few games showing that they have lots of potential, hopefully on Saturday they will continue that progress. The senior team game against Inniskeen has been pushed back a week and will now take place on Saturday 26th of July at 12pm.

Boys Under 16: On Thursday evening the Faughs U16’s travelled to Corduff with a throw in time of 7.30pm, the team is playing well but with a number of players showing great improvements over the Summer .

Minors Boys: The Minors had a disappointing result out in Latton last Tuesday evening as the O’Rahilly’s completed a comfortable win over our lads, in this competition goals will win you the game and unfortunately we conceded a number of early goals which left us with an uphill battle for most of the game. We can still can make it to the final but must now win our two remaining pool games the first against Patrick Emmett’s in St.Marys Park on Tuesday 21st of July at 7.30pm with our last pool game at home against Killanny on Tuesday 11th of August at 7.30pm. If we are get Silverware at Minor grade this year it means every game becomes a Championship match, let’s bring it on.

Girls Under 12: Our U12 Girls have a home match against Aughnamullen on Wednesday the 15th July 2015 at 6.45 p.m. followed by an away match to O’Neill Shamrocks on Saturday the 18th July 2015 at 12p.m. We wish the girls the best of luck in both matches. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Girls Under 14: The Girls finished out their League in determined fashion with two fantastic back to back victories. They had a home game against Killanny on Wednesday last the 8th July 2015 which they won with the help of a solid team effort from all of the girls. They then travelled to Latton last night and fought hard for another deserved victory.

Girls Under 16: The Girls have a home match scheduled for Monday next the 20th July 2015 against Monaghan Harps at 6.45p.m.

Muckno Mania Sports Day and Teddy Bear Picnic: Well done to everyone who took part in the Teddy Bear Picnic and the Muckno Mania Sport’s Day last Saturday, the great thing about sports days are that the children love the rain and on Saturday we had our fair share of that but more importantly we had lots and lots of smiles. Thanks to Paul MacCormack Solicitors for sponsoring the medals and to the army of people who volunteered to help out on the day, it really was great fun for both parents and children.

Summer Camp: The McMahons Centra Faughs Summer Camp takes place on the 12th-15th August. Application forms for the camp will be available at training over the coming weeks and also in McMahons Centra & Supervalu. We ask that you return the forms as soon as possible to help us plan for what promises to be an action packed Camp.

Ulster Final: The very best of Luck to the County Senior Team this Sunday as they take on Donegal for the third year in a row in the Ulster Senior Football Championship Final, let’s hope that Dermot and the boys can take the Anglo Celt back to Monaghan, make sure you get those Monaghan Jerseys and Flags out to support the Boys.

Well done: We are very luck people in Castleblayney to have such a brilliant community and indeed community spirit, again this was highly evident at the Muckno Mania Festival last weekend, this festival just seems to go from strength to strength with a brilliant committee leaving no stone unturned so that everybody in the local area can participate and feel part of the event. The Faughs are proud to be part of the programme through the Sports day and indeed we very honoured to have had the beautiful Gena Lowry representing the Club in the Festival Queen competition, she was just fantastic. Well Done Gena and all the Muckno Mania Festival Committee on another great weekend.
