Meetings: The club’s monthly meetings for June take place this Thursday evening: juvenile at 7pm, senior at 8pm.

Seniors: Our senior footballers lost by 1-17 to 1-15 away to Latton last Wednesday. We got off to a slow start, conceding 1-3 in the first eight minutes. Three points from Nicholas Treanor, two points each by Shane Smyth, Dónal Hahessy and one apiece by Dean Fanning and Conor Galligan brought us back into the game, but we still trailed by 1-8 to 0-9 at half-time. The teams remained closely matched throughout the second half, with Neil McAdam, Conor, Dean and Fearghal McMahon on target for us, while Fearghal converted a penalty late on, but it wasn’t enough to salvage a result.

Team and scorers: Ashley White; Gareth Treanor, Aodhán Óg McAnespie, Michael Galligan; Nicholas Scott, Neil McAdam (0-1f), Liam Hahessy; Conor Galligan (Capt., 0-2), Stephen Driver; Dean Fanning (0-3), Dónal Hahessy (0-2f), Fearghal McMahon (1-2, 1-0 pen, 0-1f); Niall Hahessy, Shane Smyth (0-2), Nicholas Treanor (0-3, 2f).

Subs used: David Hughes, Peter Coyle, Shane Coyle, Niall Greenan.

Our seniors host Donaghmoyne in a star game this Sunday.

Reserves: Our McKeown Cup team were involved in two one-point games last week. The first of those saw us finish on the right side of the result away to Killeevan in the league on Wednesday. We struggled for scores for most of the first half, but a Francis Lynch goal and points by Dónal McCarthy and Turlough Clerkin just before the interval kept us in touch. It remained tight after the restart and even though we fell three points down late on, a goal by Turlough and points by Dessie McGarry and Dónal won it for us on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-14.

Team and scorers: Ronan McGann; Aidan Connell, Ahmed Gamal; Robbie Moyna (Capt.), Carl Foentjies, Tiarnán Bramley; Dónal McCarthy (0-2), Turlough Clerkin (1-3); Francis Lynch (1-0), Cónall McKenna (0-1), Thomas Bourke; John Treanor, Conor Forde.

Subs: Colm Shalvey for Connell, Paul Rushe (0-1) for Treanor, Dessie McGarry (0-2) for Moyna (inj.).

There was no luck in Sunday’s championship semi-final, however, when we were edged out at home to Clones. Some well-struck frees by Robbie Moyna and points from play by Niall Greenan, Conor Forde and Francis Lynch left us 1-5 to 0-6 down at half-time, but we drew level after the restart. Clones struck for a crucial goal midway through the half and although we rallied again, with points by Mark McCaughey, Carl Foentjies, Francis and Tiarnán Bramley closing the gap to the minimum (2-8 to 0-13), we ran out of time.

Team: Ronan McGann; Robbie Moyna (Capt.), Aidan Connell; Conor Devlin, Mark McCaughey, Carl Foentjies; Dónal McCarthy, Turlough Clerkin; Conor Forde, Paul Rushe, Niall Greenan; Francis Lynch, Colm Shalvey.

Subs: Tiarnán Bramley for Devlin (inj.), Ahmed Gamal for Greenan (inj.), Dessie McGarry for Shalvey.

We have the O’Duffy Cup semi-final at home to Magheracloone tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 8pm and we are away to Toome in the RFL Division Three next Wednesday.

Minor/U-16: Our minor and Under-16 footballers are now in the exam break. Good luck to all doing the Leaving and Junior Cert.

U-14: Our Under-14 Division One team fell to a heavy defeat away to a strong Carrickmacross side last Saturday. Playing into a strong wind in the first half, our lads’ only scores came from Killian Conlon and Conor Devlin, while Carrick ran up 2-6. A brighter start to the second half saw Annan Connor (0-2) and Killian close the gap slightly, but Carrick pulled away with a blitz of goals, to which our only response was a point each by Luke Coyle and Conor. The next Division One league game is away to Scotstown on July 4.

Team and scorers: Dylan Ballantine; Andrew Lyden, Conor Devlin (0-2, 1f); Liam Conway, Lochlainn Power, Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh; Annan Connor (0-2, 1f), Lorcan O’Rourke; Terence McDonald, Killian Conlon (0-2, 1f), Luke Coyle (0-1f); Stephen Ward, Adam McGarry.

Subs used: Brian McAteer, Jamie McCarron.

Our Division Four team play Cremartin in a championship semi-final this evening (Tuesday) and they host Clontibret in the league this Thursday.

U-12: Our Under-12 Division Four team had a comprehensive win away to Oram last Thursday. Cian Bradley, Scarlett Herron and Fionán Ó Gallchóir kept us narrowly ahead in an evenly-matched start, before the Harps pulled away, with Eoin O’Hanlon, Fionán and Oisín Reilly all scoring goals. Oisín Treanor, Mark Clerkin and Ethan Ballantine were among the scorers in the second third, while Senan Cudden, Oisín Reilly, Cian, Eoin, Fionán and Gary Devlin were all on target in the final 20 minutes as the Harps gave an impressive team performance.

Team and scorers: Ethan Ballantine; Gary Devlin (0-1f), Dáire Conlon; Senan Cudden (3-0), Mark Clerkin; Seán Callan (Capt., 0-1), Eoin O’Hanlon (3-1); Fionán Ó Gallchóir (2-5, 0-1f), Cian Bradley (0-5); Scarlett Herron (0-4, 1f), Oisín Reilly (2-4).

Subs used: Morgan Coyle, Oisín Treanor, Shane Moran.

All three Under-12 teams have home games this Saturday, starting with the Division Four game against Éire Óg at 12 noon. Next up is the Division Five team against Scotstown at 1.15, followed by the Division One team against Magheracloone at 2.30.

Well done: To all involved with the Ladies Club’s annual Abbey Fanning Sevens Tournament at Gavan Duffy Park last Saturday. Donaghmoyne retained the cup, with St. Macartan’s, Augher winning the shield.

Dates to remember: Our annual Juvenile Club collection is due for June 19/20. On the same weekend, the Hurling Club hosts Féile na nGael.

Clubhouse: The Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available to book for functions. Contact Jimmy Croarkin on 087 1249635 for more information.

Hurling:

U-12s: Training continues every Sunday at 12pm. Our U-12s were at home to Cootehill on Monday evening and in a close match they lost out by two points. Next we are away to Castleblayney on Monday, June 22.

Under-13 Farney Hurling Academy: The Farney Hurling Academy will take place on Wednesday, July 1 and is a chance for all our young hurlers to train alongside players from other clubs and meet with an inter-county hurling player. Everyone that attends will also receive a hurling grip and t-shirt. Anyone born in 2002/2003/2004 is eligible. For those yet to receive entry forms they will be available again this Sunday at training. Forms should be submitted by Friday, June 19.

U-14s: Our U-14s fell to a 2-6 to 3-13 defeat at home to Castleblayney in their championship semi-final last Thursday evening. With the teams even at half-time, a good start to the second half by Blayney was enough to see them pull away and finish winners. Hard luck to our lads who, on a brighter note, have Féile 2015 (June 19-21) to look forward to and preparations are well underway.

U-16s & Minors: Due to state exams there will be no Under-16 fixtures until June 22 when we take on Castleblayney.

Seniors: Next up is the Championship quarter final away to Carrick on July 9 at 8pm.
