ULSTER ONE-WALL CHAMPIONSHIP CASSIDY TAKES ULSTER ONE-WALL

The Ulster One-Wall Handball Championships took place last weekend in the new Handball arena at Loughmacrory co. Tyrone. 150 of Ulsters top handballers congregated at the state of the art arena to compete for the various Ulster titles. One-Wall handball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world at the minute and the standard played in Loughmacrory last weekend was world class. 

Monaghan had 10 players competing with one, Paul Cassidy from Tydavnet Handball Club, reaching the finals and taking home the gold in the Golden Masters division. Paul defeated Conor Kerr from Breachagh in the final.He won his early rounds convincingly but lost the first game in the final 13-15. He picked up the pace in the second winning that 15-4 and took the tiebreaker 11-3. Eoghan Mc Ginnity from Harps Handball Club came close. Eoghan breezed through the early rounds but fell at the last hurdle loosing the final of the u/14 to Cahir Monroe from Carrickmore. Darren Doherty from Emyvale Handball Club was one of the favorites in the men’s open but unfortunately Darren just couldn’t find his best game and lost to a very strong Jonny Woods from Tyrone. Paul. Darren,Eoghan and other Monaghan handballers have now to focus on the National Championships in Castlebar next month.

COUNTY HANDBALL PRESENTATION NIGHT

This years Monaghan County Handball presentation night will take place Friday night, 12th. June. St. Mellans Handball Club are hosting the event kicking off at nine o clock. Everybody is welcome and a good night is promised. Some of those receiving awards are Darren Doherty for senior champion,Paul Cassidy for junior champion,Tim Oliver nov. 1 champion,Niall Reilly nov. 2 champion, Fergal O Neill nov. 3 champion ,Aiden Marron nov. 4 champion and others.
