This week our seniors were in action twice against Castleblayney – in both the Monaghan and Armagh Leagues. While they succumbed on Sunday in the Monaghan League, a victory on Wednesday evening ensured Clontibret maintained their position at the top of the Division 1 League in Armagh, at the half-way mark. This is a great achievement, but the real achievement will be staying there for the rest of the summer! The second leg of the competition commences on Wed June 10 when we travel to near-neighbours, Derrynoose. So keep up the good work girls! We welcome back Catherine Tomany and Donna Moen to ‘active service’. The girls had been in abstentia this past year for work and study reasons. Congratulations to Catherine, and indeed big sister, Mairead, on recent achievements in terms of their careers and Aisling G on her new posting! Success richly deserved!
Our U-12’s had a great win on Saturday when they travelled to Camlough for what was a very tough encounter. Congratulations to them! Many of these girls were part of the Scoil Mhuire team that captured the Cumann na mBunscol Girls football title, against Latton, on Friday, so they continued their winning streak on Saturday! While I stand to be corrected, I suspect the last, and possibly only time, Scoil Mhuire won a girls football title, Shauna McElvaney, the McManus sisters, Marie Greenan, Eleanor McQuaid etc were all fresh-faced primary school players!!! So this is a title to be savoured!!! And if the young girls that comprised Friday’s team go on to achieve as much as the aforementioned ladies, and their team-mates, they have great and varied sporting careers ahead of them!
The U-12 League continues this Saturday but fixtures are only issued at the start of each week so at the time of going to print, the opposition is unknown! What we do know is that it will be one of the following: Collegeland, Culloville, Derrymacash, Aghagallon or Killeavy! Marie will contact parents.
Our U-14’s hope to play Killeavy on Saturday June 13, in Killeavy. More details next week.
Training continues for senior players on Wednesday evening at 7.30, on Thurs evening at 5.30 for the U-12 age group and 6.30 for the U-14/U-16 girls.
A reminder that a small number have still to pay their affiliation/membership fees. Failure to do so will result in a mention in Stubbs Gazette!!!!
Delighted to see Mary out and about again after a little blip in her progress. As usual, she looks a million dollars and her progress matches her appearance! Keep focused and positive Mary!!
Best wishes to Cliona, Muireann, Katie, Lisa Tara, Amy and Sioneen who are in the throes of state examinations.
Congratulations to Jennifer Duffy on scooping ‘Junior Sports Player’ award in Our Lady’s Secondary School awards recently!
Finally thank you for the kind wishes and practical help when I took an ‘unscheduled holiday’ last week!!!
