Successful Sports Day: The sun was the most welcomed visitor of all last Sunday as we held our Annual Sports Day on the field. This left the path open for a fun and most enjoyable day for all of the family. Doohamlet and Oram under 10s kicked off proceedings with an enthralling exhibition of football with only a single point giving Oram the Mc Bennett Cup to take home to Big Tom country. The next fixture saw Blackhill and Drumhowen’s Under 8s battle it out in a game that displayed plenty of skill and commitment from both sides. At the end, the sides could not be separated – perhaps they will meet again further down the line. Away from the football field, youngsters were enjoying a variety of different activities and competitions. The races were as always a close call with the children enjoying the novelty ones best. A special word of mention goes to Leo Comiskey who finally won the father’s race after 22 years trying. The tug-of-war took centre stage with Meegan Builders just about holding firm before the women showed them how he was really done. None of this would have been possible without the help and assistance of the local people who volunteered their time and helped to make the day a huge success. It was much appreciated.
