Over the past two weekends Monaghan Coaching & Games organised two separate all-county U8 and U10 Football GoGames blitzes for all the clubs in the county.
On Saturday the 6th of June, the U10 blitz took place in the Monaghan Training Grounds in Cloghan. As a new initiative this blitz was organised with a slight competitive element to it. Unfortunately on the day this didn’t come to fruition with the cold, wet weather playing its part. After the group stages the blitz had to be cancelled as the weather was just too bad for it to continue. It is hoped that the blitz can be re-organised for some time later on in the year. On the day over 500 children took part in the blitz with every club in the county taking part. In total there was over 40 teams who took part in the blitz with each team getting a minimum for 3 games each. On the day their was also music and face-painting which seemed to go down well with the children.
Last Saturday, the 13th of June, the U8 blitz took place, with the same venue as the previous week. This time the weather was more favourable with the sun even making an appearance! Due to two of the pitches being unavailable in Cloghan and a large number of teams present, this meant on some occasions teams had to sit and wait for their games to take place but at least they could do this while enjoying the good weather. Similar to the previous week, every club in the county was represented with over 50 teams and 600 children taking part in the blitz.
Monaghan Coaching & Games would just like to thank all the clubs, their mentors, parents and most importantly their players who took part in the blitzes over the two days. Secondly thanks to all the referees who helped out at the blitzes, either as referees or pitch coordinators, the blitzes would not have been able to take place without your help. Finally thanks to the County Board for the use of the facilities in Cloghan.
The next round of football GoGames takes place on Thursday the 25th of June with a double (u8 and U10) blitz taking place. The venues for these blitzes are Scotstown, Doohamlet, Tyholland, Corduff and Cremartin. Donaghmoyne will also run a double bliz this Thursday the 18th of June. Monaghan Coaching & Games will be in contact with the host clubs over the next couple of days in preparation for these blitzes.
