Rockcorry Notes

By Majella Boyd Tue 26th May

Car Wash Fund RaiserOn behalf of the management committee I would like to say a massive thank-you to everyone who turned up at Coyle’s Service Station last Saturday 23rd May to get their cars washed. The event was a tremendous success and well done to all the underage footballers, who enthusiastically cleaned the cars and left them sparkling. I better not forget our underage mentors Gerard O’Brien, Conor Brannigan, Anthony Lynch, Paul McCormick, Fintan Larmer, Brian Carroll, Eamon Clerkin who also chipped in when the line never let up! I am not sure of the car count but it was pretty busy on occasions and all the customers drove away very happy with their car glowing & shining. If, however, you were not able to get down today then you can still make a donation towards our underage teams no matter how much or how little you can afford you can make a difference and your contribution can help us continue our work to promote, nurture, value and encourage all kids to participate and have fun at the grass-root and underage levels. Finally, a special word of thanks goes to Gerry & Andrea Coyle who once again offered their wonderful facilities to allow us hold this novel fund raising event and for keeping all the troops fed and watered! We are a small community and therefore it is really important that we rally and support each other and it’s great to know that we have the support of local a business such as Gerry & Andrea Coyle and we sincerely thank them. Once again, thank-you to everybody for your kind donations and generous support which is always very much appreciated and until the next time please drive carefully.

Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League

Our reserve footballers played Doohamlet last Wednesday 20th May in the Platinum Tanks reserve football league division 2A competition. We started the game very strongly and with fifteen minutes on the clock the sides were neck and neck with 0-3 apiece. However, during a ferocious ten minute spell Doohamlet turned on the style that yielded an impressive 2-6 to hold a healthy 0-3 to 2-9 advantage at the interval. While the lads showed plenty of spirit and battled competitively the second half developed into a fairly one-sided affair with Doohamlet securing a very comfortable victory on a score-line Rockcorry 0-5 Doohamlet 4-13. Go Games Blitz Under 10

Pairc Naomh Mhuire was again transformed into a hive of activity last Saturday 23rd May as we hosted another very enjoyable and exciting Go Games Blitz. This time it was the under 10 footballers who showcased their skills and as always it was great to see so many youngsters from various clubs having fun playing our National game and it is always great to see the future stars of the club perform at this level in a carefree and exciting manner. Thankfully, the weather was absolutely beautiful and teams competing on the day included Clones, Drumhowan, Tyholland and our own wee bunch of warrior’s. Each team played four games and all matches were very entertaining and free-flowing and full credit to all the coaches and mentors for having the teams well organised. All the boys and girls acquitted themselves exceptionally well and gave a wonderful display, showing great enthusiasm and the signs are promising for the future. Once again, it was wonderful to see so many parents there to support and encourage the kids and we look forward to the next blitz with great anticipation.

Go Games Fixtures

The next date to put in your diary is Saturday 6th June when the under 10 footballers travel to the Monaghan GAA Training Grounds located at Cloghan, Annayalla. This will be an all-county blitz and I understand there will be an element of competitiveness introduced with a cup & shield for the eventual winners. It’s an early start because it all takes place between 9.30am to 1pm and we look forward to another great day’s excitement. The under 8 footballers will get their chance to show their skills again on Saturday 13th June when they will also travel to the Monaghan GAA Training Grounds located at Cloghan, Annayalla for a 9.30am starting time.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14 Championship

Our under 14 footballers played Doohamlet last Saturday 23rd May in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Under 14 Championship. This was a keenly contested & hard fought battle that was played at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. If you were not in attendance you missed a cracking game of football that was highly entertaining played in a very good spirit all through which was a credit to both sides. This was a thrilling match where two determined sides did themselves and the game proud and produced some brilliant scores, from both sides, and while the scoreboard shows a twelve point defeat the lads produced a gutsy performance against a strong Doohamlet side. The game took place in perfect conditions and we played with the aid of a slight breeze during the first half and produced a fantastic performance full of skill and free-flowing football and at the end we enjoyed a 2-6 to 3-1 advantage with scores coming from Conleth Keenan (1-2), Conor Clerkin (1-1), Christopher Donnelly (0-2) and Aaron Smyth (0-1). When play resumed in the second period it began at a fast pace with great commitment being shown from both sets of players and it was end to end stuff as Doohamlet came out fighting and while our defence were in top form Doohamlet managed to notch up 1-3 while Aaron Smyth tagged on 1-0 and Gerry Larmer slotted over 0-2 to leave it all square at 3-8 to 4-5 with only six minutes remaining. The match continued to be a competitive affair with both teams enjoying periods of possession but during the closing stages Doohamlet flourished and they really piled on the pressure and hit an impressive 2-3 to secure the victory on a final score-line Rockcorry 3-8 Doohamlet 7-8.

Well done to the Monaghan senior footballers who booked their place in the next round of the Ulster Senior Football Championship courtesy of 0-16 to 0-15 victory over local rivals Cavan last Sunday. They now progress to the Ulster semi-final where they await the winners of the Fermanagh v Antrim clash and no doubt it will prove another exciting encounter. Well done lads and keep up the good work.

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that the club will be unveiling shortly a new sponsor for our senior & reserve teams. Scoreboard (Sign) Sponsorship

Following a recent call-out for companies or individuals to come forward and sponsor items or events within the club I am delighted to announce that Gerry Coyle of Coyle’s Service Station and Mac Lennon of Lennon’s Butchers have agreed to jointly sponsor a sign above the current scoreboard. For many years we have relied on a small number of very generous local businesses in our community. Sponsorship obviously plays a vital role in ensuring the club continues to develop, grow and prosper and fundamentally it provides a platform for the club to invest not only in our teams but our facilities. This is another exciting deal for the club and once again I would like to thank them most sincerely for their support and encourage you to support our sponsors whenever possible in appreciation of their support and investment in the club.
