Monaghan Coaching and Games organised a Gaelic Football 4th Class Skills Competition and a Hurling 5th and 6th Class Skills Compeition . All schools in the county were invited to take part in the competition. In total 13 schools took part in the football competition with 5 schools taking part in the hurling compeition.
The football competition covered all the main skills of Gaelic Football, the pick up, solo, kick pass, hand pass and shooting, while the hurling competition done likewise focusing on the scoop life, dribbling, ground strike (left and right hand side) and striking from the hand.
The standard of both competition was very high with each participant who completed the test excelling in the majority of the skills. In the football competition the overall winner was Conor McPhillips from Urbleshanny NS, with Ciaran Brannigan and Stephen Mooney (both Annyalla NS) coming second and third respectively. In the hurling competition the winner was Leo Maloney (Annyalla NS) with Liam Whelan and Dara O’Callaghan (both Scoil Rois Carrickmacross) coming second and third.
The first place prize was a Monaghan jersey with second prize Monaghan shorts and socks and third place a Monaghan beany hat.
We would just like to thank all the schools for taking part and all the parents/ teachers/ mentors for taking the children to the competition.
