Clones Notes

By Majella Boyd Tue 26th May

Comhghairdeas mόr to Fintan Kelly and the Monaghan team on their fine victory over Cavan on Sunday. Local derbies are always very tough encounters, inspired scores and substitutions ensured victory on the day and we’re delighted to come out on top with the bragging rights this year, we’ll be taken nothing for granted with our next encounter an Ulster Semi Final at home on June 21st against the winners of Fermanagh and Antrim. It was a great day for the Club in Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday where we had three players involved with the county minor panel. James Mealiff and Eoin McQuaid despite two fine points from James, Monaghan were unable to reel back in Cavan’s Minors.

Seniors: There’s nothing better than a local derby match to focus the mind and body and our next game at home to Currin is a must win game for us. An important two points but more importantly the bragging rights will be decided this Saturday the at 7pm in St.Tiarnachs Park, make sure you’re there to support the team.

Reserves: Saturday evening’s game against Toome was postponed off as Toome couldn’t field a team. The rescheduled fixture has yet to be decided. The reserves having been going very well lately and their next game is a local derby away against Killeevan on June 20th with a 7pm throw-in. The team and management would appreciate your support as they continue their strong performance in the league.

Minors: have finished the league and training continues with a few challenge games organised and a full panel back again we’re hopeful of a wee run in the championship which will take place after the Leaving Cert.

U16’s: had an intriguing contest last Thursday evening away to Emyvale with very little separating the teams in the league it was the same on the football pitch. Just two scores separated both the teams at the final whistle. There’s a break now for the Junior Cert and their next game is at home against Latton on 2nd July. Come out and support the lads there’s some great talent on the team.

U14’s: last game was at home against Monaghan Harps with throw-in at 7:30. In a very high scoring and entertaining game with an abundance of goals scored, they say that goals win matches and in this case Harps scored more than St.Tiarnachs Sarsfields and took the spoils. Their next game is against Clontibret where the lads will be trying their upmost to get things back on track. Come out and support the lads.

U12’s: most recent game was at home to Cremartin in the first round of the league, things didn’t go to plan, there’s plenty of time to put that right and no better time or place than away against Toome in their next game on Saturday. Please support some of our youngest members who give their absolute all every week at training and on match days. Team: Kian Clerkin, Andrew McCaughey, Jack McGarry, Darragh McPhillips, Senan Monaghan, Micheal Cleary, Oisin Clerkin, Brendan Crawley, Oisin Flynn, Oisin Kierans, James McClave, Hugh McDonald, Conor MacElwain, Cian McGorman agus Ryan Nolan.

Go Games Blitz: there was a great attendance at the most recent Go Games in Rockcorry last Saturday. Our players performed well and competed excellently, this was a great day out for all the family and thoroughly enjoyed by all the participating teams.

Cul Camps: are just around the corner and now is the time to book your place contact Joanne or visit the Monaghan GAA website for details.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to one of the clubs biggest supporters Bridget McCabe, Bridget’s been suffering with her health lately and hasn’t been at her usual spot in the stand for every home and away game that her grandchildren are involved in. Bridget’s been a lucky mascot for the senior team and I know they send warm wishes also. Hopefully Bridget will be back up in stand in no time.

Comhghairdeas also to Paula Cunningham and the Ulster Ladies in retaining their All Ireland interprovincial title.
Congratulations to Senior captain Micheál Treanor and his wife Christine on the birth of their daughter on Monday. Mother and baby doing well, daddy can’t keep the smile of his face. Congrats again from everyone in the club.
