Rockcorry Notes

Social & Annual Presentation Night

Our annual social & presentation night takes place this Saturday 4th April in Fitzpatrick’s. This is always a very enjoyable occasion and this year’s social night will once again be something special as it brings us all together to honour the latest inductee into our Hall of Fame and there will also be presentations to the senior and reserve players of the year. So folks, make sure you don’t miss out on this enjoyable occasion and join us for an exciting and fun night.

Hall of Fame

Our Hall of Fame award is presented each year to a person singled out for lifelong dedication to the club. It recognises those members who have distinguished themselves over the years and is the highest honour the club may bestow upon an individual member. Since the introduction of the award in 1996 we have identified and honoured many legends of the club and this year I am delighted to announce that the management committee have voted unanimously to pay tribute and declare Tony Hannawin this year’s Hall of Fame recipient. Tony has given many decades of sterling service to our club and his contribution and achievements are worthy of recognition and I look forward to honouring a man who has given and continues to give great service to Rockcorry GAA.

Eurotech Junior Football League

The fixture details have been released and it’s going to be a busy month ahead for our senior team because they have five fixtures in the Eurotech junior football league. Their next outing is scheduled for Sunday 12th April when they travel to play Blackhill at 3pm. They are back in action on Saturday 18th April with a home game against Killanny at 7pm and the following Wednesday night (22nd April) they make the short journey to play Killeevan and the game has a throw-in time of 7.30pm. On Sunday 26th April we entertain Sean McDermott’s at Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 3pm and regrettably the CCC have made a fixture for the Bank Holiday Monday (4th May) when we travel to play Oram at 3.30pm.

Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League

After getting pushed around and coming up short against Sean McDermott’s in the previous round our reserve footballers faced another difficult and tough challenge when they made the short trip to Smithboro last Sunday evening (29th March) to play Eire Og in the Platinum Tanks reserve football league. Despite the recent poor weather conditions playing conditions were extremely good and thankfully the weather remained dry for the duration of the match. The opening exchanges were evenly contested and the encounter remained finely balanced throughout the first period and at the end of the first thirty minutes the scoreboard showed Eire Og 0-3 Rockcorry 0-4. When play resumed we quickly settled and played a lovely brand of football and picked off some impressive scores with a great all round team performance to emerge victorious and secure the league spoils on a final score-line Eire Og 0-8 Rockcorry 3-7.

Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Fixtures

This Saturday 4th April the reserve footballers have a home game against Drumhowan and throw-in time is 6pm. The remainder of the month is fixture free because their next outing will be on Wednesday 6th May when they entertain Donaghmoyne at Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 7.45pm.

Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Championship

On Sunday 10th May the reserve footballers will get their first taste of championship football when they play Doohamlet at Pairc Naomh Mhuire in the preliminary round of the Crawley Cup. The game has a throw-in time of 3pm.

Charity Cake Sale

Local lass, Leona Lynch, has volunteered to do some overseas charity work. This summer she will be travelling to Vietnam for a charity called HOW (Helping Orphans Worldwide). To raise money she is having a cake sale / coffee morning plus an Easter Raffle this Saturday 4th April in St. Mary’s Hall starting at 11am and finishing around 2pm.  Please support Leona and her chosen charity by calling into St. Mary’s Hall this Saturday. It will be a nice place to relax and have some craic and laughter with your neighbours and I imagine there will be plenty of yummy treats and delicious snacks for you to enjoy.  Good luck Leona.
