Clontibret Camogie Notes

By Majella Boyd Wed 15th Apr

First off this week are glad tidings regarding generousdonations from local organisations to the Club, for which we are very grateful. Both the Clontibret Development Association and Clontibret Céilidh Club recently donated proceeds from their fund-raising to the club, which will be used for development and the purchase of equipment. The Club is humbled by such kindness, and in ways, these donations really emphasise the importance of the Camogie Club playing their role in providing opportunities for the young girls in our community to develop into healthy, well-rounded young people, in the same way that both of the aforementioned groups are providing opportunities for young and old alike. Sincere thanks also to Aoife McCann who sourced sponsorship for lovely training tops for all of the senior panel (and of course for her beloved hubby!!!). This is much appreciated by the entire panel and management, Aoife! Thank you!

Our seniors got off to a very good start in the Armagh League when they recorded a win over Derrynoose on Sunday morning. The game was tough and relentless but our girls delivered a great team effort to secure victory on a scoreline of 4-6 to 2-3. Congratulations to Sioneen Morgan, Chloe McGuigan and Ríoghnach Duffy who made their senior debut and fearlessly showed their talent.  Next senior match is away to Mullaghabawn on Wednesday April 22.

Also huge congratulations to Sioneen, Chloe, Ríoghnach,Clíona, Sorcha, Melinda, Emily, Niamh and Captain Shauna who were part of the Monaghan County Minor team to secure a place in the National League final by defeating Cavan on Saturday in Inniskeen. Ironically this was both teams last match in the qualifiers and as they finished 1st (Monaghan) and 2nd respectively, they must now ‘do it all again’ on Saturday April 25. No venue has been confirmed though we do know that it will be part of a double header, with the Division B final, between Derry and Meath. Please pencil this date into your diary as support for the girls will be crucial on the day.

A huge thank you to the parents (and siblings, Karen!) who did trojan work on Saturday in Inniskeen, catering for all 4 teams involved in the double-header. Your efforts were much appreciated by everyone. It is vital that there is a full attendance at training for the next fortnight as winning this title would be a historic step for Monaghan.

Saturday April 25 is also National Spring-clean Day and Monaghan County Council are inviting all our club members to help with litter-picking along the by-pass, which will be closed from 10 – 12 noon. In return, they will make a donation to the club. A text will be sent in the coming week to seek volunteers.

Mary D spent a few more days at home this past week which is terrific news. I think it’s time Mary, you had a bit of a poc-around in your bedroom – sure Patricia wouldn’t mind!!!

Finally we wish all our little players in Sixth Class every good wish and blessings as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday.
