Monaghan’s victory over Donegal yesterday was somewhat overshadowed when news of the sudden death of Peter Sherry became known at the Letterkenny venue. Peter was taken ill in the ground before the game and was rushed to hospital by ambulance but it was later announced that he had passed to his eternal reward and his death will no doubt evoke profound sadness throughout the GAA in Monaghan and much further afield. A STAUNCH GAA man all his life, Peter Sherry represented Scotstown as a player and won senior football championship medals with them in 1960 and 1961. Following his career as a player he was a prominent referee for many years and later still got involved in administration at County level serving Monaghan County Board as vice chairman from 1973 to 1976 and as chairman from 1977 to 1982. The late Peter was predeceased by his wife some years ago. Funeral arrangements will be posted later. At this stage CLG Coiste Chontae Mhuineacháin would like to extend it’s sympathy to the Peter’s family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam usual.
