Under 12
Killanny U12’s played their first game of the year on Saturday past in Pairc Eanna. The game was a very competitive affair played in ideal conditions. The visitors were quick to settle and raced into an early lead. Tomas Gartlan and Daire O’Shea got the early scores for Killanny and from this point the Killanny boys grew into the game. In goals Michael Grimes was in commanding form and his accurate kick outs put Killanny on the front foot time and again. In defence Killanny had good performances from Christopher Tobin, Matthew Mathers and Niall Quinn, while upfront John Kelly Cillian McConnon and Ciaran Finnegan were always a threat. In this period of the game the Killanny team were guilty off over playing the ball and not passing to a team mate in a better position. At half time Killanny trailed on a scoreline of eight points to four. Iarla Gartlan and Dara Finnegan were introduced and both worked hard. At the start of the final third Killanny took control of the game with Cillian McGahon John Gartlan and Cian Burns driving Killanny foward at every opportunity. The Killany boys kicked some fine scores and eventually drew level on the stroke of full time. At the final whistle the scoreboard read eleven points apiece which was a fair reflection of the game. The team deserve great credit for their never say die spirit but have plenty to work in training which will be on Thursdays from 6 to 7.
