Clones Club Notes
Our seniors had their much anticipated opening Intermediate League game on Sunday against Drumhowan in St.Tiarnachs park.  We started poorly in the first half taking a long time to shake off the winter cobwebs with the visitors starting the stronger and were full value for their four point Half Time lead 0:02 to 0:06.  Needing the first score of the second half to start a comeback, that certainly didn’t go to plan with the visitors turning the screw to lead by eight points ten minutes into the  2nd half.  Clones then rallied in the last quarter of the game and some great scores and leadership saw us close the gap to two points but alas the gap was too great and try as we might we couldn’t close the gap.  Not ideal start to the campaign but a there is a long way to go and we’ll get it right for our next game away to Doohamlet on Sunday 12th of April.  FT score Clones 0:09 to Drumhowan 0:12. Congratulations to Micheál Treanor who’s been named captain for this year.
Well done to player David Freeman and selector Declan McKernan on their  Ulster U21 County success against Derry during the week.  They’re now through to an Ulster Semi Final against Donegal on Wednesday April 1st who overcame defending champions Cavan in the first round. Well done men and keep it going.
The Monaghan minors had less luck in their opening league game against Down.  With two very defensive team setups, scores were very hard to come by.  Clones players Fabian Beggan, James Mealiff, Ryan Rooney and Eoin McQuaid who scored a point from the full forward position were involved with the team. Their next league game is a home fixture in Clones on Saturday against Armagh with a 12pm throw in, the best of luck lads Ard Mór na gasurai.
On the club front our minors have their first game of the season against Aughnamullen on Tuesday the 31st March in St.Tiarnachs park with a 6:30pm throw-in having been amalgamated with Eire Óg the last two seasons the decision has been made to go it alone this year and we wish the lads the best of luck this year.
U16’s first round league game is a home tie against Emyvale on Thursday 9th April, training continues on Thursdays from 7-8:30pm.
U14’s also train on Wednesdays and played Monaghan Harps on Saturday starting their campaign with a good win their next game is at home against Sean McDermotts this Saturday with a 2pm throw-in.  You’re support and attendance would be really appreciated.
U12’s continue their training on Wednesdays in the Peace Link from 7-8pm.  They had their first Spring League game on the 21st coming up 2 points short of Drumhowan in a very entertaining high scoring game Clones 0:15 Drumhowan 0:17their next game is away to Clontibret O’Neills this Saturday.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the untimely passing of Willie Plumber O Neill of Clones/NTB.  Although it was on the soccer field where he’ll be most remembered, Plumber was an accomplished Juvenile for the club and a great supporter of Gaelic games and sport in general.  The club would like to express it’s condolences to Sheila and family.
We offer our sincere sympathy to the McEnaney family and the Corduff club on the death of Maureen McEnaney. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h’anam usal.
