Mayo 3-15 Monaghan 0-11 1/3/15
Monaghan slumped to a disappointing defeat against Mayo in Sunday’s NFL round-three tie at MacHale Park, Castlebar after playing much of the game with 13 men. Stephen Gollogly was sent off on 27 minutes, to be followed by Ryan Wylie on 55, while Dermot Malone and Mayo’s Séamus O’Shea were also black-carded in a stop-start game. Monaghan competed well against the wind in the first half, but Mayo made their numerical advantage count as the game went on, with goals by Aidan O’Shea and substitutes Alan Freeman and Mikey Sweeney wrapping up what would prove to be a comprehensive victory.
Monaghan will have to pick themselves up quickly in time for next Sunday’s trip to Letterkenny to face Donegal.
