Monaghan Harps notes

February 13th, 2015

Monaghan Harps Lotto: Our jackpot of €4,400 was won last Sunday night by Kate Myers c/o Jimmy Croarkin. Congratulations to Kate, whose lucky numbers were 6, 10, 23 and 27! Jackpot for Sunday, February 15 is €1,000 and Una Forde, Rose Donnelly and Mary McRory are on duty. All support for our Lotto is greatly appreciated.

Arch Club: We were delighted to host Monaghan Arch Club in our clubhouse for the sixth year in a row last Thursday night. As ever, this was a very enjoyable night, with music provided by Séamus McFadden, Eugene Keenan, Martin McGilly and the Arch Club choir. Jimmy Croarkin welcomed everyone along, while the highlight of the night once again was “the real boss” Hugh Coyle giving his speech on behalf of his two favourite clubs, signing off with three cheers for the Harps! Thanks to Dónal Kenny and everyone involved with the Arch Club for joining us on the night. Well done also to all our own club members who helped out in any way or who brought food along. See the Monaghan Arch Club facebook page and The Northern Standard for photos. We look forward to hosting the Arch Club again in 2016.

Meetings: The club’s monthly meetings for February take place this Thursday: juvenile at 7pm, senior at 8pm. All members welcome.

Membership: Membership fees for 2015 are being maintained as follows: €20 per adult, €10 per child or €50 for a family of two adults and any number of children. Money can be paid to registrar Dermot Coyle, who will be available to collect subscriptions in the clubhouse again this Sunday from 9pm. Players (and parents of juveniles) at all levels are reminded that they must be registered before they can play in competitions.

Juvenile presentation: The club’s juvenile presentation night has been rearranged for Saturday week, February 21 at 7.30pm. Our successful football, hurling and handball players from 2014 will be honoured on the night.

Upcoming events: As well as the juvenile presentation night on Saturday week, we are also preparing to host the second Darkness into Light Monaghan 5km walk/run in the early morning of Saturday, May 9.

Coaching: Monaghan Coaching & Games Development are running a series of Coach Education programmes and there are also a number of coaching workshops coming up in Cloghan in the next few weeks, while booking is now open for the Ulster GAA Annual Coaching Conference. See the Monaghan GAA website for more details.

County teams: There was no luck for Neil McAdam and the county senior footballers in a National League thriller against Cork in Castleblayney last Sunday. Well done to Dean Doherty and James Curley, who played in the half-time game. Kevin Loughran again started for the Monaghan Under-21s in their defeat against Tyrone. Next up for them is the last Shamrock Cup group game against Antrim.

Colleges: Hard luck to Mustafa Gamal (DCU) and Michael Galligan (DIT), who lost out in last week’s freshers championship quarter-finals.

Congratulations: To Colin and Eithne Bell of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust – the beneficiaries of our 2015 charity match – who received a GAA President’s Award in Croke Park last Friday night.

Minors: There is a meeting between management and minor players in the clubhouse this Friday at 8.30pm. Everyone intending to play minor football in 2015 is asked to attend.

Indoor Gaelic: We are running a Total Indoor Gaelic Football programme for Under-12s in the Barry McGuigan Sports Hall, Coláiste Oiriall. This takes place on Thursday at 5pm for children born in 2003 and on Friday at 5pm for those born in 2004 and 2005 (cost €2 per session). All current and new eligible players are welcome to attend. There is also indoor football currently running for U-10s, with blitzes to take place on Saturday mornings.

Scór: Scór Sinsir is due to take place in Corcaghan on Saturday week, February 21. Anyone who wants to represent the club is asked to contact Gerard Clerkin on 086 8535992.

Refereeing: Anyone interested in taking up refereeing at any level is asked to contact a committee member. For more information on the new ‘Put Your Whistle Where Your Mouth Is’ recruitment campaign, see the Monaghan GAA website.
