Clones Notes

By Mary McEneaney Sun 8th Feb

Cavan & Monaghan VEC Champions Largy College played Moyeana College Bundoran in the Ulster Schools Quarter final in Derrygonnelly on Tuesday, report next week.

Clones seniors have started back into training at the new state of the art facility that is the Peace Link. We’re very fortunate to have such a state of the art facility on our doorstep. Training for the seniors is on Tuesday’s and Friday nights. Best of luck to Micky, Donal, Gerry and the team.
Minors are back training this season on Thursday evening in the Peace Link. In a change to last season we’re going alone and the lads will be back under the tutelage of Ady and Stephen.

U16’s are back training as well on Thursday nights also at the Peace Link. Declan McKernan is taking the lads this season and we wish them the best of luck.

U14’s back into training on tuesday & friday nights at largy college, this is the only amalgamated team within the club and we wish the team and their mentors the very best.

U12’s started back Tuesday evening in largy college under the guidance of James Kierans & Damian Reilly supported by Niall Nolan.
Monaghan minors play their first challenge match of the year away to Sligo on Sunday. This team includes Eoin McQuaid, James Mealiff, Ryan Rooney & Fabian Began best of luck lads.

Monaghan U21’s had a good win against Louth in the Shamrock cup. Well done to selector Declan McKernan, David Freeman didn’t take part this time as he’s still on the treatment table . We wish him a speedy recovery and I’m sure we’ll see him back in the county jersey very soon.

The county senior team had a fantastic start to Division 1 with a very comprehensive win over old rivals Tyrone. As one club man put “you could never beat them enough, by enough”. One downside to the game was Fintan coming off with an injury, he’ll not be on the treatment table for long hopefully and the next game is against Cork in Sunday.

Club favorite Darren Freeman has been called up to the NewYork county team. This is no more than Darren deserves, his skill, tenacity, leadership and physicality have helped us out on many days. Darren made the journey last week and we wish him the very best of luck, I’m sure he’ll be a big success.
