Club Lotto! The draw for a jackpot of €1500 was held in the Emmet Centre on Monday night when the numbers drawn were 10-13-20 and 24. There were no matching numbers so the jackpot rises to €1600 this week. However the following are the “Keeping It Local” lucky dip winners €50 Paul Martin Lower Cloughvalley €20 Francie McGinn €20 Colm McEneaney Cloughvalley €10 Gene Ward Drummond Ettra. Many thanks to all our loyal subscribers for their continued support of the “Club Lotto”; it is the principle fund raising system within the club and is a vital part of our financial structure as it currently represents about twenty-five per cent of the annual income necessary to run the club! As a community based organisation we recognise and appreciate that most of our support comes from local families and the local business community in the Carrickmacross neighbourhood! In keeping with that in mind we have decided to give something back to our benefactors and supporters in the way of a thank you! Our club lotto weekly winners will be presented with shopping vouchers equivalent to the amount that they win; thereby spending it in the local economy through the shops and businesses that have supported us! There are three options to play; (a) play weekly (b) subscribe yearly (c) play on-line!

Farney Players! After the success of “Wanted One Body” in Carrickmacross and Castleblayney “The Farney Players” move their set to the Garage Theatre on Saturday night! Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the Farney Players and Carrickmacross Emmets the show is not being staged on Friday night but will go ahead on Saturday night as scheduled. Nevertheless we are looking forward to a full house for this ingenious and wildly comic romp which enjoyed critically acclaimed reviews upon its debut in the West End. We’re calling all the Gaels of the Monaghan area to support the presentation; it will be a great night out with a few shocking surprises! Hope you can come out and support the Carrickmacross Emmets club who are benefactors of the voluntary time and commitment of the “Farney Players” who have been brilliant to the club.

A Night to Remember! What a result in Omagh; Monaghan after a poor start completely dominated Tyrone and put them to one side with some great stuff! The pundits who wrote off Monaghan for the trap door will have to re-write the script! Fantastic start to the campaign and congratulations to the panel and especially to our own Stephen Gollogly who put the icing on the cake (or in this case the snow) with his deciding goal which he tucked away neatly to the Tyrone net! This result could be “lights out” for Tyrone before the end of the league but we’ll still support them to stay up!

Vote of Sympathy! At a recent meeting of the Emmets club a vote of sympathy was proposed and seconded to the Lonergan and Duffy families on the death of Collette Lonergan; Farney Street; who will be sadly missed and remembered with love and affection by her extended family and her many friends. To her sons Gerry, Paddy and Ken we offer our sympathies on the death of their beloved mother. We send our profound commiserations to her daughter Noeleen and her husband John Byrne (JB) not only did Noeleen lose her mother but also suffered the loss of her mother-in -law Mary Byrne (Killanny) who passed away on the same day. The Lonergan family needs no introduction in relation the Emmets; they have served the club for four generations ever since Patrick Lonergan; former secretary of the Monaghan County Board came to Carrickmacross; By the late 1920s the family presented the famous “Lonergan Cup” to the Emmets for a competition played between the senior clubs of the county with the final usually fixed for St Patrick’s day. Down through the years the name Lonergan has been connected in some way with the club either through administration or playing and of late we had a generation of her grandchildren wearin’ the green. Mrs Lonergan came from a good Emmet’s background herself and we include in our condolences her brother; Hubert and Peadar Duffy both playing members of that famous minor team of 1954 that won the county championship also her other brother Declan and sister Mary; daughters-in-law Carmella, Eileen and Anne and grandchildren. “Suaimheas sioraí dá hanam”
