The Late Tommy Duffy RIP.
It was a well attended guard of honour that escorted the remains of Tommy Duffy from Pairc Eanna to his final resting place in St. Endas. Tommy was a stalward with the Geraldines from the late 40,s to the late 60,s, he generally operated I lar na pairce, had his opponent not known him before throw in they would certainly have made contact during the contest. Tommy was known to be a close marker. Sunday was the football day , the Holy Mass and the match, home, away or elsewhere. Monday evening was the time for discussion with Essexford the venue. The happenings on the previous day, the good and at times the not so good. The training for the coming week. Football was so much part of life. Tommy was like so many others he just loved the game, plenty of hard knocks given and taken, no pulled muscles or hamstrings, get on with the game. You might be sure as well, the referee earned a few bob on the Sunday afternoon, no red, yellow or black cards just straight talk and the odd hop ball when in doubt. Tommys philosophy towards the game was most interesting and simple., hard work, training a couple times a week, let the ball do the work, win more than 50% at mid-field, forwards to take their scoring chances, tight marking at the back, goalie with a safe pair of hands and the odd drink during the week. You would always win more matches than you loose. May God rest Tommy, he was so much part of the scene at the time,. We extend our deepest condolences to his sons FergaL and Emmet and all his family and friends. Go ndeana Dia trocaire ar a anam dhilis
