Clones Notes

Congratulations to the Largy U16’s county champions who secured a facile victory over Belturbet last week. They’ll find their next assignment a lot tougher, a visit to Crossmaglen on Wednesday. Result and report next week. Largy U18’s game against Bailieborough last Wednesday was called off halfway through the second half amid a snow blizzard. Replay was on Monday in more clement conditions on the all weather pitch at the peace link. Largy found it difficult to begin with and Bailieborough were three points ahead early in the first half, an advantage they were able to hold onto. But then the real pressure was applied by Largy with five goals scored by the home team. When the Bailieborough goal keeper has nightmares they’ll be full of Micheal Tierney who slotted four goals past him, with James Mealiff scoring the other one. This was a great team effort, the hard work, commitment and talent of this group of players shining through. Team: Kevin Murphy, Ronan King, Ben Daly, Martin McPhillips, James MacElwain, Corey McAree, Ryan Rooney, Ryan Tierney, James Mealiff, Eoin McQuaid, Dermot Gleeson, Cameron O’Leary, Fabian Beggan, Micheal Tierney, Daragh McDermott. Subs: Conal Beggan, Tyler O’Hanlon, Ollie Clerkin, Dion Conlon, Evan Mulvanney, Dylan Greenan, Micheal Smith, Luke Reihill, Mattie Newell, Damian Connolly, Peter Clarke and Tommy Monaghan.

The first executive meeting of 2015 took place last Thursday night in the club rooms. Everyone was in agreement of the excellent job and high spec finish achieved. Well done to all involved from start to finish, maithú. Congratulations to James Kearns who is the new child protection officer. The date for the dinner dance has been set, keeping with tradition it’ll be the 14th of February in the Creighton. Tickets on sale shortly.

The tickets for the national club draw should be in by now and I’m pleased to report that it’s been a phenomenal success. Big thankyou to everyone who bought and sold tickets and especially Declan McQuaid who orchestrated this project.

Well done to Fintan Kelly who captained the Monaghan Senior team on Sunday against Cavan in the Dr.McKenna cup. We didn’t get the win, the lads showed great character in the second half and it’ll make the championship meeting of the two teams later on the year something to savour that little but more.

Well done to the hard working men of St.Tiarnachs park who at the very smallest of notice (Healy park unplayable) were busy clearing frost and making the stands and paths ice free on Sunday for the Tyrone Antrim game.

The senior team had a gym session in Dutchys facility in Cavan on Sunday to knock the winter cobwebs off and by all accounts it went very well.

The search continues for Kieran McAree anyone who can give their time in the search or support the search fund it would be greatly appreciated. This is a profound tragedy and his family and friends need all the support that we can give, please help.
