The executive committee of Castleblayney Hurling Club would like to thank the people of Castleblayney and the surrounding area for their continuous support over the last 60 years. The history of this club and the people who have guided it down the years is immense. The club and its past and present members have built a very well respected GAA community which has developed thousands of young people into excellent hurlers. These young men have shown their skills all over Ireland. Down the years the club has been lucky to have been gifted with several excellent hurling people who came to work in this area from what is known as the stronger hurling counties such as Tipperary, Kilkenny, Clare, Antrim, Wexford, Laois, Cork and Galway. These people who were born with a hurley in the hand helped in many ways to strengthen and keep alive the game of hurling in these so called weaker counties. The emergence of the National Feile Na Gael in 1971 was a major step forward and allowed players from these weaker counties to play against top class players from all over Ireland. In the 43 years of its existence 21 teams from our club won this County Feile Competition and this enabled them to travel to clubs inTipperary, Wexford, Clare, Galway, Cork, and Meath where they always give a good account of themselves winning an All Ireland Feile in Galway1992 and an Ulster Feile Final in 2000. Many players from this club have represented their county, their province and their country. There are many Senior championship medals, Ulster medals, and All Ireland Junior Championship medals proudly won by players in this club, There have been many famous players who played for this club in the green and gold down the years such as Joe Brennan, Gus Lohan, Nudie Hughes, and many popular locals such as Terry Connolly, The Denny Brothers, Eddie Murphy, Paddy Mc Eneaney, Frank Marron, Frank Mc Quaid, Pat Bolger, Kieran Lonergan, Tom Russell, Mick Curran and many more.
This variety concert is a celebration of our club and its history with the local community and will showcase the additional talents that the players have aside from their excellent hurling skills. From comedy to dance, from choir to music of all kinds to suit every taste. Young and old will take to the stage to make this a very fun and enjoyable night for all.
