All three teams competed very well in all 3 of their games. The players showed a great attitude throughout the day and represented Monaghan with great pride on the day. The team had been training for the blitz for the past 2 months. After the U14 club competitions finished in September, a 7 week training block took place every Saturday morning since, the management teams also drafted in an extra 15 players who applied themselves well throughout the year with their club. In total there was 65 players in the squad.
From the beginning of the year we can see great improvements with these players, they have applied themselves really well on the training field and hopefully they will come away from the year knowing exactly how high the dedication and commitment needed to play inter-county football is. Unfortunately like the nature of all squad’s at this level, the playing panel will now be reduced for the winter strength and conditioning programme. The panel will be published on the website later on today.
Fitness testing for the squad will take place this Friday in Our Lady’s Secondary School, Castleblayney. The squad will be split into 2 groups for the testing, all players will be let know what time they will be due in at.
Monaghan Coaching & Games would just like to thank all the players, parents and their clubs for all of their support of the team to date. It is greatly appreciated. Finally we would just like to thank the management team of Paul O’Connor, Adrian Alford (Clones) and James Bellew (Emyvale) for their hard work with this group particularly over the past two months. We would also like to thank Colin Malone and Marty Corey for their assistance at the weekend and all their hard work with the Development Squads for the past year.
