Senior Team: We welcome Aughnamullen to Toome on Saturday 4th October at 5pm as the battle continues for a league semi final spot.
Kevin Tibby and Stephen Blessing formed a rugged half back line, literally putting their head where others wouldn’t put their feet! James Wilson was outstanding in midfield, giving an exhibition of high fielding before injury forced him off. He re-emerged for the final minutes, rattling in a vital 1-1 on his return. Matthew Carolan switched out to midfield, working very hard and contributing well in attack. The half forward line worked extremely hard, Kevin McCooey’s defending high up the pitch and skill on the ball made life difficult for the Patrick Emmets defence. Bartek Karpinski grew into the game as it went on, and when the pressure was on in the second half, he drove us forward. James McMahon had an excellent start to the game, winning kickouts and kicking 2 good points, before injury ended his day prematurely.
In the inside line, Killian Ruddy was lively and accurate, playing well on the big day as always, while Frank Connolly had an outstanding day at full forward, making great use of the quality ball going into him. Igor Wojtas played well when introducted, while Eoghan Watters fired over 2 great points in the second half. Sam, Joseph, Cian and Colm all contributed well all year, and plyed their part in getting us to the final.
It was a victory that seemed improbable a few short weeks ago, when we had to beat Blayney in Toome to make the semis, having been hammered by them earlier in the year. The quality display that day gave the team confidence going forward and they followed that up with a memorable victory over Clones in the semi final. Great credit must go to the mentors Enda Quinn, Louise & PJ Kelly and Sean O’Reilly as the improvement in the team has been outstanding. Well done to all involved!
The U 10’s showed great determination and teamwork, the future is looking good for football in Toome. The team included Cohen McCabe, Caolan McGivern, Sean McArdle, Thomas McMahon, Marc Murphy, Callum O’Reilly, Callum Sweeney, Ryan Kelly and Shane Kelly. A big thank you to Eoin Gorman, Cormac McDonnell, Sarah McCooey and Pauric Donaghy who helped out on the day and gave great support to the younger players. Thanks also to Hugo Connolly who did a great job referring both games. A great day was had by all.
