McGuigan Builders IFC Semi-Final
Our hopes of reaching our first ever Intermediate Football Championship Final came to an abrupt halt this on Saturday 27th September at St. Mary’s Park, Castleblayney when our senior team were out thought, out fought and out played by a stronger, hungrier and more determined Donaghmoyne side. They simply dictated the pace of the game as we struggled throughout (in most positions) and made our exit from the competition with a very disappointing, tame and lacklustre performance. I know Donaghmoyne were the hot favourites to progress to the final but I don’t think anyone could have anticipated the insipid performance from our lads! For some unknown reason, we lacked desire, hunger and there was simply no fire in our bellies, while Donaghmoyne, on the other hand, basically wanted it more and as a result we were comprehensively beaten on a score-line Rockcorry 0-11 Donaghmoyne 3-17. Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League
After our exit in the championship last weekend our attention now reverts back to the Monaghan Electrical intermediate league because this Saturday 4th October the senior team will be back in action when they travel to St. Tiernach’s Park to play Clones. We know that we did not give a good account of ourselves last weekend and if we are to have any hope of remaining in the intermediate ranks then we must go out with all guns blazing or in this case all shooting boots firing! With only three games remaining it is important that we get something from this clash and the game has a throw-in time of 5pm. The remaining two matches are fixed for Sunday 19th October when we host Corduff at 3pm and on Sunday 26th October we travel to play Donaghmoyne and the game is fixed for 2pm.
Go Games Blitz
Last Saturday morning our under 10 footballers travelled to Doohamlet to play in their last blitz of the season. They played games against Eire Og, Sean McDermott’s and the hosts Doohamlet and while they were slow to get going they responded well with some delightful football and all the kids really enjoyed the day. There was great energy and passion from all the players and the mentors and a high level of skill was shown. I have to say, the kids have performed really well throughout the season and have shown improvement as the year went on. This is a testament to the great work that is being carried out by our underage mentors and coaches and well done to Paul McCormick, Brian Carroll, Fintan Larmer and Marian Larmer for their patience, encouragement and enthusiasm that they have given to the boys and girls at this level. We are very fortunate to have a good bunch of dedicated coaches and we sincerely thank you for your time and your efforts to give the kids a solid foundation for the future. Furthermore, a sincere thank you to all the parents who supported and encouraged the kids throughout the year and for helping out with transportation.
Bosco Carroll Memorial Tournament
It has been a busy season for the under 10 footballers but they are not finished yet because the end of year tournament in memory of my father, Bosco Carroll, will take place this Saturday 4th October starting at 11 am. Four clubs will compete for the memorial cup with two semi-finals and the final being played the same day. Refreshments will be served in St. Mary’s Hall afterwards.
Chernobyl Children
Would you like to make a positive difference? If the answer to that question is yes then please support one of our senior footballers, Cathal Sheridan, as he attempts to fill a container for the next aid shipment in aid of Chernobyl Children. These children live in a highly radiated and contaminated area which was destroyed by the world’s worst nuclear disaster. They are the innocent victims of abandonment and neglect and your support & contribution will bring joy to a child and change their life forever. This is a unique and a very worthy cause and the club is fully behind Cathal as he endeavours to fill the container and I know that the people of the village and surrounding areas will give generously. You can help by donating clothes (Adult & Children), warm clothes, nappies, bed linen, blankets, toys, footballs, colouring pencils, school stationary, books, jerseys, soap, medication etc You can make a difference, so please get involved and get in touch with Cathal (087-1345979) or leave a message and we shall arrange to collect items. Every little thing helps and will make a positive difference to one of these kids.
