Championship News:
Minors:
The Corduff Minors played Latton in The Division 3 Final in Inniskeen last Sunday. They played a great game but came up short in the end on a score line of Latton 3-9 Corduff 1-11. Manager Adrian Burns and his backroom team of Ciaran Brennan, Jason Hand and John McCaul were very pround of the team and how they performed all season by reaching the final. Well done to everyone involved and congratulations on reaching the Div 3 Final.
Seniors:
After showing impressive form in the Intermediate Championship Corduff Senior Men exited it on Saturday when they played Inniskeen in the semi-final in St. Mary’s Park Castleblayney. Played in ideal conditions the opening exchanges were even enough with Corduff going ahead in the 9th minute and taking control until the interval when they were ahead on a score line of Corduff 1-7 Inniskeen 1-4. In what was to be a game of two halves Inniskeen dominated the scoreboard in the second half with Corduff’s last score of the game coming in the 10th minute. The teams were level in the 19th minute on 1-08 each and from here on Inniskeen stretched ahead . With scores and supply drying up for Corduff Inniskeen won by a 6 point margin Inniskeen 1-14 Corduff 1-8. Congratulations to the senior team and Manager Seamus McEnaney and his backroom team on reaching the business end of the season.
Intermediate League:
Once again the focus switches to Monaghan Electric League action with Corduff at home to Sean McDermotts this Saturday. Throw-in is at 5pm so we are calling on all supporters to come out and support the team.
Ladies:
On Saturday last the Senior Ladies made the trip to Portmarnock to participate in The All-Ireland Ladies 7’s. Despite the fact that this was their first time to attend the 7’s they made their presence from the first throw-in. The standard of football was impressive and played at a fast pace throughout.
In the Group stage Corduff beat Clontarf Dublin, A Garda team and Kilmichil Clare . They missed out on a place in the Intermediate Cup Semi-Final by being beated by Glenamaddy/Williamstown Galway. However they qualified for the Intermediate Shield Final by beating Fergus Rovers Clare in the Semi-Final. The winning form came to an end in the Shield Final as they were defeated by Milltown Galway. The Seniors were not only the last Monaghan team in the 7’s but also the last Ulster team. For their first time entering this was certainly an outstanding achievement. On the day Alana Kernan was very impressive in goals dealing with shots from all angles while the other 6 players defended and drove forward attacking with confidence. Unfortunately Barbara Ward got injured during the 2nd game and was badly missed in the other matches. We wish her a speedy recovery.
The panel of 12 was as follows Alana Kernan, Naomi Cogan, Fiona Patton, Kate Brennan, Barbara Ward, Laura McEnaney, Colleen Callan, Eva Woods, Sinead McEneaney, Hannah Finegan, Sarah McEnaney and Claire Connolly. The Committee would like to congratulate the Senior Ladies and their Management Declan Kernan and Pete Cassidy on a hugely successful day. The Committee would also like to thank Padraig McEneaney, Celtic Pure for sponsoring water on the day and to Joeanne Marron for sponsoring snacks.
League Final:
The Senior Ladies are back in action in The Intermediate League Final against Emyvale B this Sunday. We wish the Senior Ladies and Management every success . Please come out and support the team on the day. Nothing beats being there!
Hurling All-Ireland Replay:
Congratulations to Ladies Club members Emma and Louise Byrne and the Kilkenny hurling team on winning the replay last Saturday. It was a great achievement for the twins to work with possibly the greatest hurling team ever! Well done girls!
