Peace Link: last Friday saw the official launch of Peace link sports facility by uactaran na heireann Micheal D Higgins. The club are delighted to be stakeholders in this development. It would be remiss of the club not to mention the hard work dedication, enthusiasm that Declan McKernan has brought to the project his tenacity and staying power were tested many times in the fourteen year process. It’s also hugely important to mention all the clubs representatives’ over those years who sat on the Clones Erne East Sports Partnership, volunteers who put the club first, Donald McDonald, Tom Kelly, Martina Holland and Ben Quinn. The management company were also represented by the skillsets of Jimmy Corr and Enda Graham. Take a huge bow, this facility is a credit to you all.
Seniors: Clones collected a valuable brace of league points last Sunday by virtue of a two point win over Carrickmacross in St Tiarnach’s Park. This was an enjoyable game played before a good attendance and produced some good passages of football. Clones enjoyed a period of dominance in the latter part of the first half which saw a half time score of 1-7 to 0-5 in favour of the home side. The second half saw Carrick stage a fight back, but Clones held out to record a two point victory on a score line of 1-13 to 1-11. Next up is our final home game, against Rockcorry, on Saturday evening with a 5pm throw in. We have had two very close games with Rock in the Intermediate Championship and are well aware that we face another tough assignment this weekend. The league is very closely contested this season and we are in contention for a semi-final spot so every game is vital. The support was very vocal and encouraging on Sunday and gives the team and management a great boost. Keep it going folks! It’s much appreciated!
Under 10’s: We travelled to Scotstown last Saturday for a blitz with two teams. There were some fantastic performances all round. Well done boys and girls. Thank you very much to David McCague and Scotstown for hosting the blitz. The annual highlight of the Clones Juvenile scene the Connolly and Garda Cup’s competition takes place next week and I’d encourage as many parents and members as possible to get up and support on this finals day. There has been many a love affair with the sport and the club as many of our senior players past and present will attest. Full reports next week.
Other Sports: Well done to both Jonathan Douglas and Mark Connolly on their man of the match displays last weekend for their respective clubs.
Well done again to Patrick Murray on another fantastic performance for Tampa Bay. The highlight being a 50 yard field goal conversion (only just) and getting the first win of their campaign.
New York County: It wasn’t to be this year for Clones men Darren Freeman and Lonan Maguire in the County Championship at the weekend. Both men played very well and Lonan’s tenacious tackling and high fielding along with Darren’s speed and accuracy (6 points) were highlights.
