Senior Team: We welcomed Drumhowan to St Victor’s Park on Sunday last for a match that was anticipated as being pivotal to both sides hopes of a semi final spot. Drumhowan started at a blistering pace, and having raced into a lead of 1-5 to 0-1 after 17 minutes, things looked ominous for the home side. We began to claw our way back however, and despite the dismissal of substitute Alan Lambe, who had made an impact in his brief spell on the pitch, the scoreline at half time read: Toome 0-4 Drumhowan 1-5.
It’s a cliché as old as the GAA itself, but the team down to 14 men seemed to find an extra gear, and a goal midway through the second half from Gary Wilson levelled matters at 1-6apiece. The sides swapped scores in a tight battle to the end, and a draw at 1-9 each was probably the fair result. We travel to Blackhill next Saturday evening for a 6pm throw in, as the race for 4th place continues.
Congratulations: To former Toome sharpshooter Gerard Cunningham and his new wife Denise on their marriage last week. There’ll be a tug of war in years to come between Monaghan and Louth for the services of their two wee boys, who have inherited their father’s scoring left peg.
Toome Diaspora: You might have noticed an interesting article a few weeks ago on the work of Eugene McArdle to promote the GAA in New York. He’s involved in the Celtics club in Brooklyn, where he recently organised a massively successful underage blitz. Hopefully his home club might make it over some day!
