Defending champions Scotstown are through to another Gormley uPVC Senior Football Championship Final after they cruised past Castleblayney in the first semi-final on Sunday. Mark and Ciarán Hanratty kept Blayney in touch in the first half, but Scotstown led by 0-8 to 0-7 at the interval and they gradually pulled away after the restart, with nine players getting on the scoresheet, including goal-scorers Conor McCarthy and Shane Carey.
Ballybay will face Clontibret in next Saturday’s semi-final after they held off a late comeback from Truagh in their replay. Ballybay made a flying start, helped by a Cillian McAviney goal, but Daniel McKenna responded for Truagh and a couple of long-range points by Paudie McKenna helped them finish the half 1-7 to 1-6 up. Despite losing Christopher McGuinness to injury and Thomas Kerr to a black card, Ballybay gained the upper hand again with McAviney netting for the second time to help them move eight clear. They conceded soft goals to Christopher McKenna and Mark Counihan to open the door to an unlikely comeback by Truagh, who had the gap down to a point late on, only for Paul Finlay to kick a brace of frees to take his tally to 0-8 and close the game out.
Corduff and Rockcorry completed the McGuigan Builders Intermediate Football Championship semi-final line-up when they both made it three wins on the trot on Saturday evening. Goals by Paul McKeown (two) and Raymond Byrne saw Corduff put a fairly slow start behind them to blow Clones away, while a Paul McKeown major and 0-4 each from Mark Daly and Fergal McGeough gave Rock a platform to hold off a late comeback from Cremartin.
Carrickmacross booked their place in the Silver Hill Foods Minor Hurling Championship Final with a dominant performance away to Castleblayney on Saturday. Clontibret edged out Truagh in a high-scoring quarter-final on Sunday.
