U-14: Our Under-14 Division One team won the shield with hard-earned wins over Truagh and Scotstown last week. Tuesday’s semi-final away to Truagh saw goals by Lochlainn Power and Conor McCrystal and points by Oisín Fagan (two) and Annan Connor gave the Harps a 2-3 to 0-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Conor added 1-1 before half-time, along with a Corey McArdle goal and an Adam O’Neill point. Majors from Conor and Luke Coyle, either side of a point from Adam, made it 6-6 to 2-12 by the end of the third quarter and although Truagh rallied in the final period, points from Conor and Oisín guided our lads through.

Team and scorers: Dylan Ballantine; Seán Conway, Andrew Lyden; Killian Conlon, Annan Connor (0-1f), David Leane; Colin Peppard, Adam O’Neill (0-2); Lorcan O’Rourke, Conor McCrystal (3-2), Oisín Fagan (Capt., 0-3); Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh, Lochlainn Power (1-0).

Subs used: Corey McArdle (1-0), Stephen Ward, Conor McCarron, Luke Coyle (1-0), Eoghan McGinnity.

An exciting shield final saw our lads dig it out late on to edge out Scotstown in Tyholland on Saturday. Conor McCrystal, Oisín Fagan and Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh were on target in the opening quarter at the end of which Scotstown led by 1-3 to 0-3, but the Harps dominated the second 15 minutes, with 1-1 each from Dylan Maguire and Conor and a point by Annan Connor giving us a 2-6 to 1-4 half-time lead. The third quarter was nip and tuck, with Conor adding three points to his tally and also helping Adam O’Neill add 1-1 to keep our lads ahead by 3-10 to 3-8. Scotstown regained the lead with a fourth goal inside the final period, but points from Dylan and Oisín kept the game in the balance and there was still time for a dramatic finish, where Oisín fired home a crucial goal and Conor swung over a brilliant point to turn it again in favour of the Harps, who won by 4-13 to 4-11. Well done to the players and the management of Finbarr Conlon, Mel McMorrow and Chris Conway for their efforts.

Team and scorers: Dylan Ballantine; Seán Conway (Joint Capt.), Andrew Lyden; Dylan Maguire (1-2), Annan Connor (0-1, ’45), Killian Conlon (Joint Capt.); Colin Peppard, Adam O’Neill (1-1); Lorcan O’Rourke, Conor McCrystal (1-6, 0-2f, 0-2 ‘45s), Oisín Fagan (1-2, 0-1f); Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh (0-1), Lochlainn Power.

Subs used: Corey McArdle, Stephen Ward, Eoghan McGinnity.

Our Division Five team lost out to a strong Carrickmacross side in their Cup Final in Blackhill on Saturday morning. A youthful Harps team, featuring seven Under-12s, found Carrick much tougher opposition than their last meeting and trailed by 2-4 to 0-1 after the first quarter in which Shane McCabe got our only score. Eoghan McGinnity hit 1-1 in the second period, but Carrick managed to stretch their lead further until the final quarter when points from Dylan Ballantine (who had moved to full-forward), substitute Adam McGarry, Joshua Clerkin and Eoghan and a goal from Shane McCabe closed the gap. The final score was 5-10 to 2-6 in favour of Carrick, but our lads can hold their heads high at the way they kept playing until the end. Thanks to everyone involved.

Team and scorers: Dylan Ballantine (0-1f); James McKenny, Conor McCarron; David Leane, Liam Conway; Tiarnán O’Rourke, Eoghan McGinnity (1-2); Joshua Clerkin (0-1f), Killian Conlon; Shane McCabe (Capt., 1-1, 1-0f), Shay Treanor.

Subs used: Jamie McCarron, Adam McGarry (0-1), Killian Treanor, Oran Ó Caoláin.

Seniors: The Senior Football League resumes with a home game against Doohamlet this Saturday at 6pm.

U-16: Our Under-16 footballers qualified for a second final with a 1-14 to 1-8 win at home to Truagh in the league semi-final last Thursday. Dylan Duffy hit 1-2 in the first ten minutes and Shane McMahon and Aidan Burns added points to get our lads off to a flying start and they added five unanswered scores in the second quarter – two each from Jack Deery and Nathan O’Donoghue and one from Dylan – to lead by 1-9 to 0-2 at half-time. Jack and Dylan were on target in the early minutes of the second half and although Truagh put our lads under some pressure from there on, Jack kicked our last three points to secure victory. The league final against Magheracloone is set for Saturday week, September 20, with the championship decider versus Truagh the following Saturday.

Team and scorers:  Dylan McAree; Thomas Croarkin, Cathal Power, Niall McManus; Jamie Shields, Ultan O’Rourke, Niall Ward; Remy McKenna (Capt.), Aidan Burns (0-1); Jack Deery (0-6, 1f), Shane McMahon (0-1), Ben Kearns-Flynn; Nathan O’Donoghue (0-2), Dylan Duffy (1-4), Ethan Murphy.

Subs used: Paul Peppard, Conor Duffy, James Bourke.

Gavan Duffy Park: Thanks to everyone who helped at our hosting of a double blitz (U-8 and U-10) last Saturday morning.

Congratulations: To the Harps senior ladies on their IFC win last Saturday.

Hurling: The Under-14 Hurling League continued with a narrow loss in a high-scoring game (6-7 to 6-5) away to Carrickmacross next week on Monday, with a home match against Castleblayney next up this Saturday at 12 noon. The Under-16 Hurling Championship quarter-final is at home to Carrickmacross on Monday, September 15.

Hard luck to the county minor team, who were narrowly beaten in last Saturday’s All-Ireland ‘C’ Final against Mayo, with eight Harps hurlers on the panel – Tiarnán Bramley, Ciarán McQuaid, Conor Flynn, Reece Treanor, Ruairí Forde, Ciarán Cassidy, Mark Murphy and Cathal Power – plus trainer Alan Ryan.

Ladies: Massive congratulations to our senior team, who were crowned County Intermediate Champions on Saturday in Aughnamullen on a scoreline of 5-12 to 1-2. In what was a great display of free-scoring football, the girls upped the performance again from the semi-final to claim a substantial victory over Inniskeen. Despite Inniskeen scoring just three times, only once from play, the game itself was a tough encounter and the scoreline did not reflect the lengths to which they pushed the Harps. The team was: Allison Treanor, Niamh Maguire, Laura McManus, Gráinne Treanor, Orla Whelan, Tessa Fleming, Shauna Hetherington, Yvonne Connell, Muireann O’Rourke, Jennifer Treanor, Eimear O’Rourke, Emma Clerkin, Sinéad Maguire, Una Rooney, Tiarna Lavelle, Donna Marie Morgan, Claire Ní Dhufaigh, Karla Doherty, Eimear Galligan and Hannah Clerkin

Well done to our U-16s, who defeated Éire Óg at home on Thursday on a scoreline of 5-10 to 5-6. The team was: Sophie Callan, Claire Duffy, Shannon Donnelly, Éadaoin Maguire (Capt.), Katie O’Reilly, Emma Clerkin, Shauna Hetherington, Niamh Corrigan Laura Duffy, Aisling Ferguson and Aisling Gallagher
