Clones Notes

September 2nd, 2014

Back to school: best of luck to all or members who are back to school, college this week and next week. Approach your studies like your football, practice and perfect, do the best you can and above all enjoy yourselves, it’s often said but always true, they’re the best days of your lives.

Seniors: Clones made the long journey to Inniskeen last Sunday for a dress-rehearsal of their Championship meeting fixed for this Saturday. After a disappointing performance and result against Tyholland on Wednesday, Clones came into this game looking for two points to keep in touch with the pace-setters in the division. Clones started well and built up a healthy 8 point lead playing wind-assisted in the first half. Inniskeen came back into the game in the second period and were more dangerous in attack, but Clones remained resolute and collected two important league points. This result leaves us well in contention for a top four league finish. The Championship match against Inniskeen takes place in Clontibret this Saturday, 6th September, at 4:30pm.Nobody is under any illusions about how difficult this encounter will be. League form and previous encounters count for nothing in the Championship as we saw against Rockcorry in the last round. It will take a huge effort for our lads to get over Inniskeen and all support would be greatly appreciated on Saturday.

U16’s had a great win against Tyholland in an eight goal thriller last Thursday on a scoreline of Clones 6:05 Tyholland 2:10. The lads play Toome in the league semi final this evening in Clones with a throw-in time of 6:30pm. They play Patrick Emmett’s (Currin/Aghabog amalgamation) in the championship final on Saturday week. More details next week regarding time and venue.

U14’s play Toome in the Div4 shield final in Saturday at 11:30 venue is undecided at the time of writing this, stay tuned to our Twitter and Facebook pages for details.

Under 8/10’s: Training continues for our youngest members every Wednesday evening. There’s a blitz on this Saturday in Latton for the U10’s and we’re hoping to have two teams competing.
