Scotstown Notes

By Mary McEneaney Wed 6th Aug

Ned Run: The 2014 Ned Run charity 5-mile run/walk will take place this Friday evening, 8th August at 7:45pm starting and finishing at the Páirc Mhuire Scotstown GAA grounds. Registration (€10) will take place on Thursday 7th August from 7pm-9pm and on Friday 8th from 5pm in the Complex. Tray bake donations can also be left at the Complex during registration. Proceeds go to local charities.

Seniors: The next Senior League game is scheduled for Wednesday, August 13th away to Currin at 7:30pm, but this could change if Monaghan progress to the All-Ireland semi-final. The Championship game against Ballybay is likely to be played at the end of August, but could also be subject to change.

Reserves: Our B team bridged a twenty-one year gap by winning the O’Duffy Cup on Friday last after victory over Castleblayney in the Final. Scotstown got off to the worst possible start, conceding 1-2 in the opening four minutes. They steadied the ship with a strong ten minute spell, before a Dermot McCrudden put the Blues ahead for the first time just before half-time. Scotstown were in control for much of the third quarter, extending their lead to seven points. The Faughs rallied in the closing stages, but were unable to find the goals they needed to get back into the game. Final score: Scotstown 1-15 Castleblayney 1-8. And so, it was left to captain Paul Grant to be the first Scotstown player to lift the trophy since 1993. Congratulations to the players and the management team of Ben Beggan, Brendan McCaffrey, Paul Carey and Seamus Mullen on a job well done. Team and scorers: C Mohan; E Beggan, M McCague, C Treanor; J McDevitt, B McMeel, P Sherlock; D McCague, P Grant; B McGinnitty (0-3), O Heaphey (0-4), Mark Treanor (0-2); D McCrudden (1-4), S Mohan, E McCrudden. Substitutes used: M McCarville (0-1), S Rice (0-1), A Carbin.

Juniors: The C team are in Junior Championship action again this Sunday afternoon against Aghabog. Smithborough is the venue, and the game throws in at 6pm. Supporters are encouraged to come along and support the lads.

Minors: The Minors secured a draw against leaders Donaghmoyne to finish in third place in League Division One. Their attention will turn to Championship action next Tuesday, 12th August when they take on Magheracloone in the Semi-Final. The game will be played in Blackhill, with a 7pm start.

Under 16: Both our Under 16 sides fell to defeat last Thursday evening, the Division One team to St. Pat’s, and the Division Four team to Emerald Sarsfields. The Division One side play Corduff in the Championship Quarter-Final this Thursday evening at 7:30pm in Scotstown.

Under 14: The Division One side are away to Truagh on August 20th. The Division Five team are at home to Monaghan Harps on August 16th.

Under 12: The Division 1B Shield Final against Finn Rua is now likely to be played on Tuesday, 12th August – venue to be confirmed. Our B team will play Emyvale B in the Division 3B Shield Final on Friday, August 15th at 7pm – again, the venue to be confirmed.

Get Well Soon: Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Matt McCrudden after his recent operation.

Sympathy: Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of the late Eamon Carroll, Scotstown on their loss. May he rest in peace.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
