Jackpot for Sunday, August 24 is €2,100 and Tessie Connolly and Seán and Kathleen Boyleare on duty. The Lotto plays an essential part in the running of the club and we ask for everyone’s continued support.

Community Games: Best of luck to the Monaghan Town Community Games U-10 mixed Gaelic Football team, who travel to Athlone this weekend to take part in the All-Ireland finals. A lot of work has gone into preparing the team for this latest challenge and we wish the players and management all the best.

Summer Camps: Our first Harps Fun Summer Camp at Gavan Duffy Park got underway on Monday and continues until tomorrow (Friday), with good numbers of children enjoying football, hurling, handball, traditional music and dance. See report next week.

Seniors: In a busy week in the SFL, we lost narrowly to Ballybay on Wednesday, before drawing with Latton on Saturday. Wednesday’s game in Ballybay saw us start well, only to trail by 0-4 to 0-3 at half-time and fall further behind after the restart. We stayed in touch and had a late chance to salvage a draw, but we fell short on a 0-13 to 0-10 scoreline. We looked to be on course to win in Latton on Saturday when we led by 0-9 to 0-3 at half-time lead, but Latton were improved after the restart and they ate into their deficit. A Dean Fanning goal lifted the siege, but Latton pounced for a last-gasp goal to level it at 1-11 apiece.

We played Clontibret last night (Wednesday) – see website for details.

U-16: Our Under-16 footballers will host Donaghmoyne in the championship semi-finals next Thursday. Donaghmoyne have conceded this evening’s scheduled league game.

U-14: Our Under-14 Division Five team claimed a place in the league final with a big win away to Scotstown last Thursday. This was a very strong team effort, with standout performances from Terence McDonald, Eoghan McGinnity and Dylan Ballantine in goals in the third and fourth quarters.

Team: Erikas Dikmonas; David Leanne, Conor McCarron; Jamie McCarron, Killian Treanor; Shea Treanor, Oisín Fagan; Killian Conlon, Tiarnán O’Rourke; Eoghan McGinnity, Terence McDonald, Joshua Clerkin, Dylan Ballantine, Craig Cooney

An understrength Division One team featuring three U-12s lost at home to a strong Magheracloone side on Saturday. The Harps stayed in contention in the opening two quarters, but Magheracloone’s goal-scoring power put the game beyond our lads’ reach.

Team and scorers: Dylan Ballantine; Conor McCarron, Andrew Lyden; Dylan Maguire, Oisín Fagan, David Leanne; Lochlainn Power (1-0), Stephen Ward; Conor McCrystal (0-1), Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh (0-1), Joshua Clerkin (0-1f); Seán Conway, Eoghan McGinnity (0-3, 1f).

U-12: The Under-12 FL Division 1A Final against Emyvale is now due to be played on Saturday week (August 30).

Well done: To Shane McMahon, Remy McKenna, Jack Deery and the Monaghan Under-16 footballers, who became the first team from the county to win the Buncrana Cup in Donegal last Saturday.

Sympathy: The club sends its sympathy to Matt McCaughey and family on the death of his brother, Patsy.

Gavan Duffy Park: We host the RFL Division 1A Final between Clontibret and Scotstown this Sunday at 1.30pm. All help appreciated. Thanks to everyone who helped at the Under-12 final and MFC semi-final last week. Club members are asked to take due care of the pitch and ensure that is kept in the best possible condition.

Clubhouse: The Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available for functions and parties. Contact Liadhan Treanor on 086 7837204 to book.

Hurling: Congratulations to the Harps Under-16 hurlers, who won the league final in some style against Cootehill in Clones on Monday evening. Cootehill started the game with a goal, but points by Ben Kearns-Flynn and Cathal Power got the Harps up and running. Cathal, Aidan Burns, Mark Murphy and Remy McKenna were all on target to make the half-time score 0-7 to 1-1 in our lads’ favour and Mark, Aidan and Cathal again found their range after the restart. With Dylan McAree leading an outstanding defensive effort by the Harps and Seán Grant making an impact at the other end on his comeback from injury, even a second Cootehill goal didn’t faze our lads. Seán found the net to put the game beyond doubt and the Harps pulled away to win by 1-15 to 2-2. Well done to the players and the management team of Jim Dalton, Michael O’Donoghue, Thomas McCabe and John Hahessy.

Team and scorers: Cillian Sherry; Conor Duffy, Ryan Connolly, Anthony Greenan; Cathal Power (0-4f), Dylan McAree, Niall Ward; Niall McManus (Joint-Capt.), Thomas Croarkin; Nathan O’Donoghue, Aidan Burns (0-3), Mark Murphy (Joint-Capt., 0-3, 1f); Remy McKenna (0-1), Andrew Connolly, Ben Kearns-Flynn (0-1).

Subs: Paul Peppard for McKenna (inj.), Seán Grant (1-3) for A Connolly, Conor McCrystal for O’Donoghue, John Lowry, Jorin Connor, Shane McCabe, Luke Coyle, Aaron McNally.

The Under-14 HL continues with an away game against Truagh on Monday.
