Inniskeen Victorious in Development League

Jubliations were the order of the day in Drumhowan on Sunday last with Inniskeen Camogs commanding a  3 -6 to 1 -10 victory over Clontibret to claim the 12 a side Senior Development League. The Development League which was introduced this year to facilitate the Inniskeen and Truagh clubs, who were struggling for numbers, meant that Castleblayney and Clontibret had to line out without their key players.

The match which got off to a scrappy start with both teams marking ever so  tightly, seen Clontibret claim the first score of the game when Ailbhe Boyle  connected with a  Michelle Morgan sideline in the 4th minute to put it over the bar. Nicola Morgan  and Ailbhe Boyle         wasted no time when they both split the posts  with Michelle Morgan doing likewise from a well taken free in as many minutes.

Inniskeen got their name on the scoreboard in the 9th and 12th minute when Linda Callan converted two frees, a scoreless period ensued until the 23rd. min when Inniskeen’s Amanda Mc. Ardle delivered a great pass to Carmel Mc. Skane who rattled the Clontibret net. Inniskeen continued to pressurise the Clontibret defence but Clontibret answered in the closing stages of the first half with a point from Muireann Atkinson. Not to be outdone Inniskeen’s Julieanne Finnegan was on target when she got their second goal past the Clontibret keeper in injury time to leave Clontibret trailing 2 -2 to 0 – 5 at halftime.

Inniskeen were quick off the mark at the start of the second half when Tina O’Connor again broke through the Clontibret defence to land their third goal and Linda Callan followed up with a point.

Clontibret went through a lean spell until Ailbhe Boyle was on target once again when she put one over in the 9th minute.   Both teams swapped well taken points at the end of the first quarter coming from Linda Callan and Muireann Atkinson.

Nicola Morgan  who was a threat to the Inniskeen defence shot for goal but was denied, when Bernie Mc. Gahon  put it out for a ’45, Michelle Morgan duly converted and again did the honours a few minutes later to narrow the deficit. Both teams swapped points before Julie Anne Finnegan was issued with a red card,  but it was Inniskeen who finished the stronger on a scoreline

Inniskeen 3 – 6

Clontibret 0 -10
