Championship
Killanny 1g 11p
Truagh 1g 10p
We got a sweet win over Truagh on Saturday last in Oram in the final of the Platinum Tanks Reserve Championship McKeown Cup coming from one point behind with time almost up to clinch a victory thanks to the accurate boot of Stephen McMahon who equalised and then got the winner. Two great points from Michael Vernon followed by one from Marc Conlon and four points from Stephen McMahon and Gareth Yore got his boot to a bobbling ball which brought the half time score to 1g 7p to 4points. Playing in very wintry conditions and against a strong breeze we failed to gain primary possession around midfield and Truagh came more and more into this game but registered several wides. Robert Berg replaced Stephen McBride and Andy Callan came on for Sean McDonald and steadied the ship. Robert made an instant impact on the game and made several great runs to set up scores. Stephen McMahon and Mark Conlon registered two points an then Truagh hit a purple patch and hit a goal and 6 points to put them ahead by a point with 5 minutes remaining. Stephen slotted over the equalizer from a free after a foul on himself. Time was almost up and the quick thinking Andy Callan after been fouled spotted the unmarked Stephen who split the posts much to the delight of the traveling Cill Eanna supporters. Kevin Quinn in goals took off some great saves, the full backs of Peter Markey and Donal McArdle marshalled the full back line well, the half backs of Shane Connolly, Lochlann Byrne, Stephen McBride and Robert Berg must come in for special mention as time and time again they cut out dangerous balls and drove forward. The midfielders of Michael Vernon who scored 2 points and Edmund Markey had their hands full and broke about even with possession. The half forwards of Adrian Campbell Stephen McMahon, Sean McDonald and Andy Callan all worked very hard with Stephen been the top scorer with 7 points. The full forward of Gareth Yore and Marc Conlon caused havoc with their blistering runs and scored 1g 2points. Gerry McDonald from the County Board presented Captain Stephen McBride with the McKeown Cup and after a cupla focail from Stephen it was off for the celebrations. Subs: Fabian Marron, Donal Byrne, Andrew McMahon, Niall Grimes, Paul Martin, Kevin Crawley, Garreth Finnegan, James Duddy, Cillian Leegan, Adrian Holland, Dermot Leegen, Michael Quinn.
