Inter-county:
Last Saturday in Croke Park, Monaghan were soundly beaten by Dublin. And so, another campaign ended. To be playing in, and supporting your team, in August in Croke Park, is the aim at the start of the year for all involved in the game, but is not the reality for very many counties. We in Monaghan can rightly feel very proud of this team for giving us yet again a great season. Well done to all involved, especially Dick and Jack.
Monaghan Ladies
Monaghan had an excellent win over Tyrone to progress to the quarter finals and a meeting with Galway. This game will be played on Saturday 24th August T venue to be decided. Well done to Ellen and Laura.
John Smith, Callowhill, Scotshouse. R.I.P.
It was with sincere sadness that we learned of the death of John Smith, Callowhill, Scotshouse. The Smith family have a great association with football in Currin and John was a valued playing member and supporter for many years. John had an encyclopaedic knowledge of Gaelic football and was, like a lot of Monaghan folk, an avid Down supporter in the early ‘60’s, when his own Monaghan were in the doldrums. He therefore took great delight in the recent successes of Monaghan and Currin and sadly he passed away last week after a relatively short illness. Members of the Currin club together with his hunting colleagues formed a guard of honour at his funeral. Currin G.F.C. extend our sympathy to his brothers and sisters and all his family and friends, especially to his brother Charlie who resides in the village. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam uasal.
Connolly’s Bar
Congratulations to Terry Fay and Connolly’s Bar for their continued support for Currin, with the presentation of new jersies. Terry is a valued committee member and Connolly’s have a long association with our club. Well done Terry.
