Goals by Aidan Duffy and Colm Lambe helped Drumhowan produce a strong second-half performance to see off Éire Óg in Round 1B on Friday, while a Daniel Forde major helped Oram defeat Killeevan at the same stage on Saturday, before a brace from Michael Geehan and one each from Hugh Byrne and Ryan Courtney guided Blackhill to a Round 1A replay win over Toome.
Castleblayney continued their winning run in the Silver Hill Foods Senior Hurling Championship when they cruised past Truagh last Thursday evening.
Clontibret are up to second in the County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League after they edged a one-point win away to leaders Ballybay last Sunday, while Scotstown lost to Castleblayney. Goals by Niall Coyle (two) and Mark Counihan led Truagh to a comfortable win over Doohamlet, while Monaghan Harps finished strongly to pull away from Currin and Latton held off Magheracloone for a crucial two points.
The top three in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League were all beaten on Sunday, with Carrickmacross, Donaghmoyne and Inniskeen going down to Seán McDermotts, Emyvale and Clones respectively. Corduff’s fifth consecutive victory, at home to Cremartin, saw them leapfrog into first place, while Rockcorry remain rooted to the bottom after they let a healthy lead slip when losing to Tyholland on Friday.
Aughnamullen moved to within one point of Killanny at the top of the Eurotech Junior Football League when they cruised to victory against Scotstown on Sunday.
Three Division One teams were dumped out of the Maguire Transport Minor Football Championship on Tuesday evening, with Killanny, St. Patrick’s and defending champions Carrickmacross losing to Magheracloone, Truagh and St. Tiarnach’s respectively. There was no surprise for Donaghmoyne as they saw off Doohamlet, while Clontibret got the better of Toome. In the Division Three preliminary round, there were high-scoring wins for Corduff and Latton at the expense of amalgamated sides Emerald Sarsfields and Patrick Emmetts respectively.
Castleblayney have four points in the Under-21 Football League Division One South after they edged a tight game against Carrickmacross on Friday, before getting a walkover from Killanny on Wednesday. Magheracloone won Friday’s other game against Killanny. Monaghan Harps won another competitive encounter against Truagh in Division One North on Friday, while Emyvale conceded to Scotstown. Latton defeated Clones in Division Two North, while Inniskeen conceded their Division Two South game against Donaghmoyne.
Truagh squeezed past Magheracloone in the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 1A last Wednesday (July 9), while the following Wednesday saw Latton secure their status with a narrow win over Monaghan Harps, with Magheracloone and Truagh conceding to Clontibret and Scotstown respectively. Donaghmoyne won the battle of the top two in Division Two with Aughnamullen on Wednesday, July 9, while Seán McDermotts eased to victory against Corduff. Currin took a big step towards securing fourth place in Division Three when they beat Clontibret on Wednesday, July 9, while Monaghan Harps beat Aghabog, who then conceded to Killanny on Sunday. Clones conceded to Emyvale on Wednesday, July 16.
The Gerry’s Prepared Veg. juvenile action included the Under-14 Football Championship Division Two Final on Wednesday evening, when Castleblayney proved too strong for Seán McDermotts.
