The Ulster SFC Final takes centre stage on Sunday, but there are club games spread across the week, including JFC action on Saturday.
Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship Round 2A
Aghabog v Blackhill, Saturday, 6.00, Castleblayney
Killanny v Aughnamullen, Saturday, 7.30, Castleblayney
The JFC continues with a double-header of Round 2A games in Castleblayney on Saturday evening.
The first game sees last year’s runners-up Blackhill attempt to book another semi-final place when they take on Aghabog. Blackhill have already played three times in this year’s competition, having defeated Killeevan easily and then Toome after a replay last Saturday. Aghabog have struggled in the league this year, winning just one of their first nine games, but they did see off Oram in their championship opener.
Blackhill are set to be without Colin Woods after his red card last weekend, but they still have plenty of firepower in the likes of Ryan and Ciarán Courtney and Michael Geehan, with Dermot Daly and Dónal Courtney other key players. Aghabog will need big performances from Shane and Seán O’Brien, Gary McBride and Damian Smyth if they are to rip up the form book and overturn their nine-point defeat against Saturday’s opponents in their most recent league clash.
Next up, the top two in the JFL lock horns at 7.30pm.
Killanny and Aughnamullen have each lost just once in the league so far this year, leaving them in first and second place respectively. Killanny needed a replay to get past Scotstown in their championship first round, while Aughnamullen, who were relegated last year after six campaigns in intermediate, had a comfortable win over Éire Óg.
Pete and Sam Dooney, Shane Conlon, Colm Flanagan, Colin Clerkin and Seán Sheridan are key players for Aughnamullen, while Killanny will be looking to player-manager and former Carrickmacross star Andy Callan to lead their challenge along with Tiernan and Ronan Duffy, Daryl Traynor, Steven McMahon and Conor Vernon.
The Silver Hill Foods Senior Hurling Championship is down to the last round of group games. Unbeaten duo Castleblayney and Inniskeen go head-to-head on Thursday, while Clontibret face Truagh. Inniskeen are back in action on Saturday in a local derby against Carrickmacross.
The Maguire Transport Minor Football Championship Division One quarter-finals are down for decision on Tuesday evening, with Donaghmoyne v Monaghan Harps, Clontibret v St. Tiarnach’s, Truagh v Scotstown and Cremartin v Magheracloone. In the Division Three quarter-finals, the fixtures are Corduff v Seán McDermotts and Latton v Inniskeen on Tuesday and Castleblayney v Killeevan on Wednesday, with Aughnamullen getting a bye into the last four.
The first Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Championship McKeown Cup semi-final takes place between Killanny and Clontibret on Wednesday evening. There are also Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division Three games between Clontibret and Toome on Saturday and Monaghan Harps and Clones and Truagh and Blackhill on Wednesday.
The Under-21 Football League Division One continues on Friday evening, with Scotstown v Monaghan Harps and Truagh v Emyvale in the North section and Magheracloone v Carrickmacross in the South section. There is also a Division Two North game between Killeevan and Clones.
In another busy week in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg. competitions, there are games in the Under-16, Under-14 and Under-12 Football Leagues and the Under-12 Hurling League.
