While this Friday night sees the Reserve Team compete in the O Duffy Cup Final against Scotstown in Tyholland with a throw in time of 7.30pm. The team have played well throughout the year, best to luck to both management and players.
Under 21 The boys played an away match to Magheracloone last Monday evening in Inniskeen to determine who advanced to the Division 1 U21 County Final. The lads got off to a very poor start and were 4-9 to 1-3 down at half time , they fought back in the second half but the damage was already done and they were unable to get back into the game. Final Score Magheracloone 4-14 Faughs 2-8.
Minors The Minor team had a disappointing result against Killeevan in the Championship last Wednesday evening. Despite being level mid-way through the second half it was the hungrier Killeevan team who progress to the semi-finals. Unfortunately on the night the overall performance wasn’t up to the required level. The boys have a chance to get this poor performance behind them on Tuesday evening when they once more entertain Killeevan in the league, throw in is at 7.30pm.
Under 16 Boys Last Thursday the Faughs U16’s made the short journey to Doohamlet on an evening where hydration levels were tested to the limit. The Faughs made a great start and by half time had a substantial lead thanks to some great scores from Josh Walsh, Francis McGeough and Kyle Plummer. However the Doohamlet boys never say die spirit came to the fore in the second half and they fought back valiantly before succumbing to a 7-12 to 4-10 defeat with some late Faughs scores adding a gloss to the score line. Other strong performances from this Faughs team on the day came from Jack Callan, Ross Byrne, Ben McNee and Ryan McKernan who made some eye catching forward runs forward from his corner back berth. Next Thursday sees the team back in St Mary’s Park against a strong Patrick Emmets team at 7.30.
Under 14 Girls The Championship is next up for the Girls, they have been drawn into a group with Truagh and Carrick in the round robin series. The first match is a home game against Truagh on Monday 11th of August at 7pm, with our second game against Carrick an away fixture at 7pm on Monday 25th of August. The teams in the other section are Tyholland, Killanny, Killeevan and Scotstown. Top two teams in each section to qualify for the Semi Finals.
Under 14 Boys Last Saturday saw the boys make the trip over to Gowna in Cavan to play in the Gowna Seven a side Blitz. This tournament which has now become one of the major tournaments in the U14 Calendar with 27 clubs participating from Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Longford and Westmeath. The Boys had a tough group and needed a win against the Cavan side Ramor United in the last game to advance to the quarter final where they took on the Longford Slashers. In an entertaining quarter final the Faughs came out on top by six points to put them through to a semi-final against the current Westmeath U14 Champions Mullingar Shamrocks. The Blayney lads were very slow out of the blocks and at half time trailed by 12 points; but a resurgent Faughs team showed real character to get the game back to one point before a late injury time goal against the run of play for the Shamrocks put them through to the Final which they went on to win comfortably. Well done to the Boys they were acquitted themselves very well both on and off the field. Training continues on Thursday, with two league games remaining the boys focus is on trying to secure the points to get them into the league Semi Final.
U12 Girls Castleblayney Faughs U12 girls played their last league game against Latton on Thursday last. The team on the night was captained by Molly Harte who had an outstanding game in goals making a number of crucial saves and keeping a clean sheet. This was one of the best performances to date and every girl on the team playing a major role. The midfield was marshalled by Shannon Nolan and Jodie McQuillan and they contributed 7 points between them 6 from play. In attack Aoibheann McCooey and Aoife McGeough picked off great scores while the half forward line of Caitlin McGeough and Emma Glynn were outstanding with Emma contributing 2-02 on the night well done Girls. Our defence was very determined on the night with Melissa Carr in the centre, Grace Hanratty and Shona Brady on the wings, this was the platform from where all our attacks began. Full backs Rachel Cannon and Aine McGlynn were fantastic on the night and the girls deserved to win on a score line of Latton 0-09 Castleblayney Faughs 4-12 securing a semi-final spot for the Faughs. At this moment in time we are awaiting the semi-final fixtures which will be played on the weekend of the 9th/10th of August.
Under 12 Boys Last Thursday saw our U12 Senior team take on Inniskeen in their final League match in this year’s Division 1 Coyle Cup. Inniskeen got off to a great start with a couple of quick goals but once the Faughs settled they produced some lovely football to get themselves right back into the match. Some great scores came from Caleb McArdle, Cillian Hanratty and Conor Mulligan but a goal either side half time swung the match back in Inniskeen way. This team maybe physically small in stature but they have great heart and great ability, to their credit the boys kept battling away playing some great free flowing football at times. Final Score Faughs 3-9 Inniskeen 8-4. Next up for the Boys will be a Semi Final against Carrick in the U12 Division 1 Shield, which is provisionally booked for Saturday 9th of August. Well done Boys lets push on for the Shield now.

Well done – Last Saturday saw the Blayney Rockets hold their inaugural 10 mile race around the beautiful Lough Muckno. The runners started at the boat house, ran down Muckno Street and back in the Dundalk Rd to a finish on the running track in St Marys Park. The event was a great success with a big crowd participating. Well done to the Rockets for a great race and to all our own Club members who took part either in the run or as support to the event, great to see such a buzz around St Marys Park at the end of the race. Well Done all.
