Senior Team – The senior team had a very good win in Scotstown on Sunday last. Played as a star match without the county players, Blayney got off to a good start but failed to build on this and found themselves a point down at the break. The second half saw an improvement in terms of their finishing and they were soon ahead and remained so until the end, to win by 0-15 to 0-12. There are no fixtures for the senior team this weekend owing to the Ulster final.
Junior B – After a lay off for a few weeks the B’s returned to action on Wednesday last when they hosted Cremartin in the league. The visitors were the more hungry team and soon raced into a lead and were ahead by the break. Blayney started the second half strongly and a very well taken goal by David Callen put them ahead, but Cremartin struck back and had a 3 point lead going into the final stages. Two quick points put Blayney back in it and it took a fine point from a 45 from Keeper Pauric McNally with the last kick of the game to rescue Blayney. The O’Duffy Cup final V’s Scotstown has been fixed for Saturday 2nd August in Tyholland with a 7pm start.
U21’s – The U21’s had their first game of the year on Friday evening last and produced a very good display to record a 1point victory over Carrickmacross in St Marys Park. Carrick started strongly but Blayney kept in touch and a fine Ronan McNamara goal in the last quarter of the second half put them in the lead, which they fought hard to hold till the end. They played Killanny in their second game on Wednesday night. The results will follow next week.
Minors – The minors returned after the exam break and had an impressive victory out in Aughnamullen last week. This was an important victory for the team as they chase a league semi-final and they were good value for the win after a very strong showing after half time. Aughnmullen fought back to make a game of it in the last quarter but the young Faughs team held out for the two points. The team will now focus on their championship quarter final V’s Killeevin on 23rd July in St. Marys Park at 7.30pm.
